Year End Tally
How'd everyone do this year in the outdoors? Here's my totals:

Bag Nights: 54
Trail Bag Nights: 24
Miles Hiked: 284
Days Skiied: 12

Next Years Goals:

Bag Nights: 50
Trail Bag Nights: 30
Miles Hiked: 400
Days Skiied: 30

Posted on the other thread.

Didn't count bag nights, but...

backpacking: 70 days
dayhikes (usually camp at the trailhead): 27 days
snowboard (sleep in a bag in my truck): last season (Nov-Apr or May) 31 days & this season (Nov-Dec) 12 days so far.

Didn't total the miles, but the JMT alone was 270 miles including side trips.

Snow, why don't you just get a little slide-in camper to put on that truck. Probably be a wee bit warmer, and much more confortable.

BTW, have you received your Montana maps yet? I did see two lakes with your name on them. Snow AND Nymph. LMAO

Backpacking bag nights=24
Backpaking trail miles=150
Day hikes=15
Day hike miles=35

Not too bad but not too good.
Next year 50 backpack bag nights.

Nowhere near your totals, probably 10 bag nights, about that in dayhikes and overnight fishing trips and many more one day fishing trips, less than 5 ski trips.

New Years Goals are to get out more, especially bag nights and ski trips!

Let's see:

Bag Nights: 51
Trail Bag Nights: 45
Miles: Didn't Count
Days Skiied: 6

Goal For '02

Bag Nights: 50
Trail Bag Nights: 45
Miles: Whatever It Takes
Skiing: 5

Not sure I'll make 50 again this year. Between bag nights and business travel one spends a lot of time away from home logging that kind of time.

Looks like the West Coast rules when it comes to bag nights.

it's like pulling teeth to get east coasters together. it seems like a lot of east coasters have too many family or job responsibilities to get out there.

the more 'hiking partners' i get, the more i end up soloing. maybe i need to head out west...

with jen's help and a poorly maintained day runner, i came close to figuring it out...

i have no ski time

and, despite down time for my second year of surgery (at least one per month)...
-at least 10 basecamping nights (usually because of being full of stitches)
-at least 55 trail bag nights
-and i have no freakin' idea how many miles, but they were great.

now, the surgery is done! it's time to get out there! whoo-hoo!

Rad., I saw a similiar saw at Sears the other day. It was a pullsaw (super thin, flexible blade) but it had a curved handle for more blade control. It was made by Takagi Tools, I think.

Hey CC, if I'm not mistakin', didn't we both hit #50 at Bowerman? The remaining 4 were this past holiday weekend up at The Lost Coast. The hiking portion ended prematurely due to an injured Wrongway. He slipped and fell while crossing a stream and damaged some knee ligaments (no tear). Other than that, it was just plain wet, worse than Bowerman.

If I did not leave anything off of the calendar I just took back out of the trash I was out for 51 nights plus some day hiking. Most of it was in Grand Canyon. I also spent time in Mexico and at Lake Powell. I went with Barb and bpbaby for a few days on a short piece of the AT in North Carolina.

Chief, the truck is really a SUV (4Runner), so I have plenty of room. I'm pretty short.

Got my Montana map, and found both lakes. I'm planning to go over the hill and at least get a picture of Nymph Lake. I think Snow might be a longer hike, maybe if we do a layover day.

Looking forward to that trip!

Yeah Dunk that's correct. After that I forced Michael out with me on an overnighter so I could be sure and break the 50 club.

Hey, we should start thinking about the N Cal/S Ore 2002 hike. The Siskiyous were great last year, gonna be a tough act to follow. :)

Think I've got about 10 bag nights up, 4 basecamping, 6 delightful nights soloing, mileage about 55km.
I'm staggered by how fast the year has gone and how little I've been out!
This thread has now made me more determined than ever to get out and get amongst it.

CC, I started talking it up a little with WW this past weekend. I should be on a different shift schedule then too, so I might be able to put in about 5 days, we'll see. Marbles, Siskiyous, Alps, Warner's... Plenty of options, we'll have to monitor the snow pack.

This guy is tough to top
I was searching for some info on a peak I'm looking to bag later this year and stumbled on a site created by a guy who had some incredible totals for 2001. Check this out....

104 trips (some were dayhikes, I am sure)
703 miles
296,900 feet gained (that's like 56 miles!)

I'd post the list, but it's a PDF file. Unbelievable!

What Rolls Down Stairs, Alone Or In Pairs...
I keep the same type of list (Date, Total ascent, Total Descent, Duration, Description Of Hike) in a Microsoft Excel program, and get the data from my Suunto watch.

UNFORTUNATELY my watch konked out this summer and it took me almost 2 months to get it back. AND...well...Um...my Excel program has been locked up for a while and won't let me in because I don't have the...Ummmm...registration number. Therefore I can't get at my numbers.

I've been writing the logs down since the watch and program konked out on me. I'll have to look at the numbers I have written and make interpolate my approximate yearly totals.
