Help Find A Tripod
Hello Everyone, It's been a while since I've been around, but I have a question for the photographers out there. I am looking for a small, lightweight tripod to take with me on BP trips. Does anyone else carry one and if so what do you use. I know it will add to my overall pack weight, but it will only go on trips where this is not a major concern.

And yes I have searched the old threads...

Thanks, SP

They're Sweet...Trust Me On This One
My getup is an Ultrapod 1 which is good for point and shoot cameras. If you have a SLR or a heavy digital camera, get the Ultrapod 2.

They have a velcro strap so you can stap them to a small tree/post/etc, also. I'd suggest making another strap to attach to and lengthen the velcro, because sometimes you can't find anything small enough for the strap to go round.

SP, what kind of gear are you going to put on the pod? If you're using a light weight digital or point and shoot, you might do well with the super light ones, like the ultrapod at Campmor. Vivitar makes a real light one and many cam shops carry them, such as Ritz Camera.

For backpacking, I use my Nikon Coolpix 995 most of the time. Great little camera, but if I am going anywhere that has waterfalls, I just have to bring my Nikon F100. I use slow film (50iso) so I need a sturdy tripod for the long exposure required for a great falls shot. I would not trust my F100 and heavy expensive lenses on a plastic pod. I did a lot of research to find a light yet sturdy pod that could handle my equipment safely and without vibration. I got a Gitzo G1126 from B&H in NY and love it. It's expensive, $239, but it's light and sturdy. It folds down to 15.6 inches and fits into my pack, and straps on easy if my pack is full. Here's the link: www.bhphoto.com

Hmm.. never had to deal with that.

Too much caffine and I've got Creed on pretty loud with the headphones on. Better hit it.

Thank you to everyone for the information.

Pennsy Hiker, I would like to use it with both my Olympus C700UZ digital and Nikon N80. I tend to take the lighter digital with me most of the time though.

I use an Ultrapod sometimes, but I use the camera mount, in the handle of my Leki trekking pole, more. It's very handy.

I use the 2 oz Ultrapod for most trips. It holds the Canon Rebel 2000 and Canon Rebel EOS. I tried the Pocket Tripod, but the Canon was too heavy for it and wouldn't hold the camera up. It was great for my Olympus Stylus, but I lost 2 of the 3 rubber balls. I also have the 4 oz Ultrapod, but went back to the smaller one to save weight.
