Anyone want comment on these two top of the line tentmakers?

Seems that both companies are more committed to using ONLY the strongest and lightest fabrics on their tents than some of our old favorites.
Don't seem them farming the labor out to 3rd world labor either.

I don't know much about MacPac tents. I read a little on them after reading a review of some a lightweight MacPac bag. Are MacPac tents available in the US?

The AZN's swear by Macpac gear. The quality and design seems to be good but I find that their four season tents are a little heavy.

You can buy Macpac stuff at www.backcountry-equipment.com which is in the USA.

The tents are a little bit on weighty side, but your getting something thats going stand up to a hell of a lot of abuse.

Let me know which ones you are interested in and I'll see if I can get some local info for you.

I've been day-dreaming about a Macpac Olympus for years!

I looking at the Hilleberg "Akto" and the Macpac "Microlight"
Very close in alomost all catagories. The Mac is 100.oo less, just a bit bigger inside.
Single pole design, used two different ways.

I don't know about Macpac, but I know Hilleberg is a well made tent with excellent materials.

Gear Slut;

No Macpac at BCG.com that I could see.

Did notice that the New MSR version of Moss's "Outland" looked pretty nice.

They appear to just have Macpac 3 season tents at backcountry-equipment.com. That Microlight 1 pole tent does look nice!

Yeah I noticed that two GS (3 season Maca only on the web site). Didji: the compelling difference between the Atko and the Microlight (other than the 100 bucks)is that the Atko will take you into colder and rougher weather (at least thats the way it seems to me).

Macpac vs Hilleberg
The door on the Microlight drops to the bottom, so you have to crawl over it to get in and out. I sold a tent for this reason, collect alot of crud.

Also Macpac charges 40.oo to ship!!Then if you send it back if you don't like it, another 40.oo!

Will try again to find one sold here in the US.

PedX your right on about the harsher weather factor with the Akto. I get pretty anal on this stuff sometimes. Comparing thread counts and such.
