The legend...revealed.
Just got back in from a three day trip with LeSubtil and Nigal. We were fortunate enough to have great weather, great trails and great company. We were also visited on three occasions by the beer fairy. She dwells in Michigans northwoods, and delivers beer to those who are especially good.

We night hiked in 1.5 miles to our camp. Nigal and LeSubtil dragged sleds I packed. It was dark, cold and crisp. We couldnt find the spot we were going to stay but found a real nice site that would do.We had a nice fire and hung out late.

Saturday we decide to do a 12 mile loop. There was a couple inches of snow and it was beautiful out. The trail was hilly and well marked. We saw numerous coyote tracks,7 rabbit holes,2 grouse,1 black squirrel, tons of deer tracks and lots of frozen lakes.

3 miles into the loop we encountered the beer fairy the first of three times. Laying in the trail was a green army wet weather bag. I was excited and grabbed it...it was heavy so I opened it. 4 full cans of beer!!!!
We hiked further and out of the blue another full canof beer trailside (5 total).

We cut the loop a little short due to my cold and tiredness( I am a sissy). We ended up doing 10.5 miles. We got back to camp cooked ate and enjoyed some fireside cahtting when Nigal had to use the latrine...a cathole wouldnt do. He and I walked .75 miles to the outhouse, I was restless and wanted to stretch out my legs. LeSubtil tended the fire and guarded our gear from the bands of marauding ninjas....

At the outhouse I was walking around and WHAMMMY!!!!!! 2 more full cans of ice coild brew. They were empty, post haste.

Bedtime came early and we all slpept well. Morning coffee then a quick walk out. Another wonderful trip with my TT friends! I will be back for sure in the summer.

And remember boys and girls,be good and you might get a visit from the beer fairy!!!!!!!

That was Your Birthday Beer, Bubba!
I mean, Sarge.

Funny, all I've ever found there is a 5 gal plastic pail, firewood by a fire ring, otters, a stinky bear, beavers, and a bit of trash.

I mean to attract the beer fairy. Generally you gotta sleep with the fairy's namesake before she'll show up at night and treat you.

Uhhhh ...... don't know if that came out quite right.

Yes Virginia, there is a beer fairy! I just hope that the Miller’s High Life in the can isn’t a direct reflection on my goodness for the past year. It did taste frickin’ awesome! I had a great time and am totally sold on sled/snow camping. The high point of the trip was getting to finally hike with LeSubtil and the low point was my Jeff Daniels (in Dumb and Dumber) impersonation in the outhouse. I’m gonna try and get a Yahoo photo album set up for picture sharing’. Ya gotta see the cool-a@@ Terminator glasses we found!

I wonder if the beer fairy travels this far south. Probably not. Either that or I have never been good enough to have her visit me.

Beer?
Have not drank any since Dec. 26, 1992. Ever since I got rid of my last wife, I have not had a good excuse for drinking.

You don't want to accidentally catch the Beer Fairy in the act! I saw it once in a commercial... male, mid-50's, overweight, balding, chewing the last 3 inches of a nasty black stogie, wearing a grungy undershirt, a light blue tutu and wings AND equipped with enough block and tackle to lift a V8.

When the stage hands tried to raise it with the tackle, the ceiling caved in.

Be very afraid.

Beer spores occur naturally in the northern half of the lower peninsula. But the conditions need to be just right for the beer to sprout. Kind of like morel hunting. I bet if you would have looked a little harder, there would've been thousands of cans in wet spots by oak trees.

I had a great time, despite the warm temps and lack of snow. I've been looking forward to meeting Nigal for years, and yes, he is just as "interesting" in person, LOL.
Birch will forever be Hyperpacker in my book; this guy has so much energy it's unreal. You need a strobe light just to see him.

The high point for me was our blind-luck stumbling on one of the nicest campsites I've found there. I had my siltarp stretched between 2 large Red pines, with my head resting at the base of the trunk between 2 roots. I felt like the tree was cradling my head as I stared up the trunk into the branches far above...No low points to speak of other than a headache on the trip home which kept me kinda quiet. I sure was sore last night!
