Hey guys... I'm baaaaack!!!

It's been a busy past month and a bit... trying to move houses, get ready for classes starting tomorrow, running away to the mountains and spending X-mas break with the little people...

I spent a beautiful(albeit cold!)Dec weekend in Jasper solo hiking out to Fortress Lake(again)... got to the last river crossing & just couldn't bring myself to slosh through half-frozen, calf deep water... what a wimp, hey? ;-) Took tons of pics that didn't turn out... who knew film would crack in really cold weather? Suggestions for a decent 35mm film would be greatly appreciated!

Munchkins flew out from BC on the 23rd and flew back last night... we had an AWESOME time together, but it was altogether way too short... :o( Spent last night feeling sorry for myself... cried lots & drank a bottle of wine to drown my sorrows... so much for intelligence... alcohol's a CNS depressant... :-\ Spring break'll be here soon though...

As for the whole moving thing? Well, we'll just not get into the catastrophy that was!

How've *you all* been lately??

Hey Medic Girl!

The Holidays, huh? "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times." (Who woulda thunk my high school Dickens would come back to me TODAY!?!?!) But it seems like a good description.

Where are you moving? Or where did you move TO??

I just wrote a guy on photography site who's in Alberta to check out this website (trying to do my TownDawg impression and force people to come here and hang out...hehheh) I told him there were a few people around BC and that I thought there was a gal from Alberta. Still there? (Or was I wrong in the first place? hehee)

He's got great photos from some Canadian mountains!

Anyhoo........ My holiday?? "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times...." LOL!!

Welcome back!!

Lets see... The best of times. As of the monday after next I am no longer unemployed. Which means an income, which means I can start having fun and repair/replacing equiptment that needed it a long time ago.

The worst of times: while "having fun" the motherf***ing softball hit my toe which is turning every color of the rainbow.

Hey lizs!

Gawd, I've missed you guys & your warped senses of humour!!

Yeah I'm still in Alberta... still in Edmonton too... just a different side of the city now... you ever had friends who promise to help you move & then just never show up? Well... I moved a 4 bedroom house by myself that day... took 12 hours to pack & unpack the U-Haul I rented. 'Friends'... :-P!!

Which website were you coercing him from?

Markar... having a job is a double-edged sword, isn't it? You get an income which means you can repair all that gear, but it ends up leaving you less time to hike...

I'm sorry to hear about your toe... you didn't break it, did you?

Medic_Girl I hear you. One of my friends moved last year...I was the only one of 6 "friends" that showed up to help him. At least his family (5 people) was there to help.

Baume... I'm not... school starts on Tuesday, so I'll be doing my EMT-A(same as an EMT-I in most states I think) first before I start looking again. Right now I play security guard for the lot where our city police store vehicles they sieze... not glamorous, but it pays the bills. And yeah... he's on the aqquaintance list for people I don't have time for now...

Thanks Sass... I'm a procrastinator 1st class, so it's gonna take a while... I seriously considered just throwing everything out & starting again from scratch... ;-)

Sorry that your friends let you down, Medic girl. It really wasn't a good year for you. But this new year has to be an improvement over the last one. I'm glad that you got to enjoy the holidays with your children.

Medicgirl, I also sympathize about the whole moving process. I have moved 12 times in the last 4 yrs. I'm going pro. I think the easiest way to unpack is to do just what you mentioned. Go through and find the crap that you can just toss and then do the real unpacking. I've found that people tend to haul around alot of stuff that is worthless. I can pack and unpack my entire home in about a day now. Good Luck!

Welcome back, MG
In Alberta the roses still flower.
In B.C. the mountains still tower,
But your team has been Yanked
And you're now justly ranked
As the world's number two hockey power.

Hey there Hodge! Long time no chitter-chatter... it's been really strange out here this year... what little snow we had has melted away in the last couple of days... but that horrendous amount of rain you guys got is coming to us tonight(?) in it's frozen form... yaaay! *Not*

Ya it's been a strange one, MG

We got a bunch of snow, on the hills, in December and then the 'Pineapple Express' rolled in. We've got mud slides all over the place, it's been raining, on the North Shore ski hills and the avalanche danger is already extreme, all through the south. Is this really January?

Daughter Who Surprised Mom With Birthday Visit Sues Parents For Over $75,000

UPDATED: 3:17 pm EDT July 13, 2006

MADISON, Wis. -- An Illinois woman is suing her Wisconsin parents for maintaining an icy driveway that she blamed for a fall that broke her ankle two winters ago.

This week, a federal judge refused to toss out the lawsuit, setting up a trial for November.

Carriel Louah, 25, visited Darlington, Wis., to surprise her mother on her birthday in January 2005. But the next morning, she was injured when she slipped and fell on her parents' driveway. She filed suit against her parents earlier this year.

The daughter said that a letter from her mom apologizing months after the fall proves that her parents knew they had a defective gutter for years and did nothing about it.

She's seeking more than $75,000 in damages for medical bills and lost wages.

Her parents said that she can't prove the driveway was icy at the time or that their drainage system was faulty.

U.S. District Judge John Shabaz said that a jury should decide the matter.

They're probably insured. Prob told their kid to sue.

Or, her friggin' insurance company is making her sue. My wife was on a jury a few years back where an insurance company forced a couple to sue a friend who had done the wiring on their house. The guy was bonded, licensed, etc. The couple's choice was sue, or we won't pay up.

The jury found the electrician not liable. The plaintiffs thanked them publicly.

LOL...I would think the insurance company would make you whole...then pursue under subrogation. The fact that they would not pay their insured...and take a risk of losing in court seems a bit suspicious.

I know kids who have lived the life of leeches who would do this just to get some FREE MONEY. In fact I have an acquaintance who sued his father and mother for a fall he had while drunk in their yard. The suit died when he went told someone he was doing it to get some money to get a new bass boat.
