East Coast Trip 2001- 02
We had a hoot!
We left ATL early 12/26, and arrived in Bangor, PA that evening. We visited with my Philadelphia Philly and her family for a couple days. I've promised to will Sarabelle to Jessie's mom - sorry bpbaby.

Sir Pete came by on the night of 12/27 for some stratagizing for a weekend trip. On the morning of the 28th, I followed him to The Catskills, NY for an overniter. Enroute, we encountered Pennsy at the Pack Shack near the Deleware Water Gap - a surprise TTer encounter!

We hiked in after dark, but the moonlit snow made for an easy 1-1/2 mile walk. We made camp beside a creek. It snowed intermittently throughout the night, rather hard at times. I was getting a real winter treat. The temp Saturday morning was 19 degrees.

We were back at the trailhead by late morning, and stopped in Grahamsville for lunch. We parted ways from there - Belle and I headed North toward the six million acre Adirondack Park. It was nice to meet Sir Pete - he showed Belle and I a great time at one of his "secret" places.

We got a room in Lake Placid that night. I rented snowshoes and bought a map in Saranac Lake, and carcamped in a nearby "campground" (two tent sites). We did a four hour dayhike, and slept in the truck (heater!). It was 10 degrees the next morning. I had borrowed snow chains in PA, so the Mighty Mighty Tacoma had no problems negotiating the treacherous mountain backroads.

The next night, we stayed in a motel in Gorham, NH - the gateway to The Presidential Range. We did a six hour hike "up" Mt. Adams the next day. I had rented snowshoes for this trip, too. While in the Whites, I visited the Appalacian Mountain Club's lodge and visitor's center along NH Hwy 16. First for trail info, then to give a report to Meg, the lovely girl at the VC.

We departed NH on 1/02, drove a little ways into ME, then through MA, RI, CT, Manhattan, and NJ enroute to Philly, where we stayed the night with Jessie. After lunch on the third, we headed south. We arrived at Jamie's early on the 4th, and spent the day with her, her mom, and her two siblings.

We were home about 8 p.m. on the 4th.

I'll do more extensive trail reports on the Dacks and Whites soon.

Gooooooooood times!

I was away and got your message late - you had already hit the road and I had no way to contact ya. :(

Ironically, I was in the poconos hiking...probably within 20 minutes of Bangor! I couldn't remember Jess's last name to look her up there.

sigh

Next year? Actually, I guess I am due for a Southerm tour this Spring...

I'm glad you had a great trip. I should've called in sick from the Shack and went with yas, but it was a pleasure to bump into you and 'Belle. And of course that other guy, Sir something. ;-)
