I finally found a pot to go with the newer light weight alky stoves I have been playing with - a nice Al pot from wally world for 7 bucks - holds about 1.1 liter. Its marketted as a "grease saver" so the word "GREASE" is impressed on the side of the pot and it comes with a strainer which I probably won't use and a top which I probably won't use either. Nice and light weight - too bad I don't have a scale to weight it but it feels light - much lighter than my current pot.

I would think the grease pot should be OK for boiling water over alky but ... thanks for the heads up.

Btw. was Birch's burn through when he was trying to boil water?

BRMS is overpriced IMO - often if I need something quickly or that requires fitting I'll stop at Rockfish Gap Outfitters in Waynesboro otherwise I shop the web.

Hit a super markdown sale at Gander Mtn. over the weekend and got about 60% off Woolrich Technowool jacket and pants. Great for snowshoeing, and I don't mind Realtree Hardwoods camo at all...it's machine washable wool, which is tre cool. Sorta like SmartWool socks for the rest of me.

What'sTheDifferenceBetween EskimosAndTupperware
Mr.HOI. The last time I seam sealed anything, the top corners of my Trekker Tarp, I put the sealant in a syringe to dispense. I heard it worked, and it did for me with great success. Apply a small strip then dab with brush to cover stitching. I hardly used any sealant compared to what I prolly would've if I dabbed it on from the tube. And it didn't seem as messy.

If you don't have a syringe, poke a pin into one corner of the rolled end of the tube and squirt from there to dispense. Then roll up tube to cover hole.

From ebay?I have to go over there and check some stuff out!

2/25/02

Sounds reasonable but I think I'll try a pin hole in the normal dispensing end of the tube instead - I think it will work OK looking at the tube of silicone sealer. As to how I'll do it I think I'll try it starting out loosely rolled - unroll a section, seal that section - backup and repeat - ends up with it unrolled on the floor with sealant sortof on top. Things I am not too sure of is what to use to spread the thin bead I plan on using - perhaps a plastic spoon.

BTW I think the neighbors think I am a little odd - I was out in the back yard trying out various configurations of the tarp and two treking poles in the dark with my head lamp on (grin). One nice feature noticed was the use of a reflective strip woven into the center 4 tieouts - really shows up at night when you hit it with the light.

I second Buddur's syringe method. I used an irrigation syringe with a bent tip. The bend made it easier to maneuver.

pitching it and sealing it might be OK but I am thinking I want something solid under the tarp to make spreading that silicone sealer out easier - the sealing that y'all have done was that with sil nylon or with urethane coated nylon? The urethane sealer probably works better with the syringe method as a guess and pitching the tent/tarp and brushing it on works easier too. I am a bit concerned that it won't be that easy with the silicone sealer that one needs to use with sil nylon.

What sealer are you using? GE Silicone II cut 50/50 with denatured alcohol or other mineral spirits makes a pretty nice sealant that I use on coated nylon. I'm assuming it would be OK to use on the silnylon too since it is silicone based?
roseymonster

yep GE Silicone II but I did not know the trick of cutting it with alcohol so I was assuming the usual thickness
