Enertia Foods are my favorite.

I've tried lots of hiker meals and I like Enertia the best. The Outback Spaghetti is my favorite.

I also use their PBJ packets but they are $$$.

The Parker Pass Potatos are a little bland even with the salt/pepper packets added. I carry a little something extra to add to some of their meals.

Thought I'd use an existing thread instead of starting another new one - the title of this one seems to express my thoughts the best.

Got the REI Half Dome Plus 2 tent just before heading to Mexico 1.5 weeks ago (didn't take it with me). Haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but I've heard very good things from people I've talked to. Will set it up in the yard this weekend....
REI (in Berkeley, CA) had a special members-only sales event - 20% off of the most expensive item - so I got it for 30 bucks off, $120 plus tax. Woo-hoo!!

I like what the Hlf Dome has to offer. If my wife ever decides she wants to hike with me (and pigs COULD fly outta my @ss), I will be looking into getting one.

Went camping at Gulf State Park Alabama this weekend.
I HAD to stop by the Coleman Factory Outlet on the way there.
Couldn't resist a sweet little Inyo 2 tent for $60. Think I'll use it as a nice loaner.

I racked up this past weekend. I bought all sorts of things. I went and hit all the gear stores in town.

I bought a Marmot precip jacket and pants.

Black Diamond LED headlamp

2 Equinox sil-nylon stuff sacks(these things are awesome)

1 new Gerber foldup saw. (my old Gerber was getting dull after 8 years)

1 Mountain Hardwear balaclava.(this was nice to wear when i went to the smokies this past weekend)

1 platypus insulator tube(to keep my platypus from freezing up)

1 light weight bungee strap to strap my beer bag on the back of my cooler

1 pair of wind stopper gloves

1 neoprene nalgene bottle holder(kept my water from freezing

2 MSR ground hog stakes

1 Oregon country stake bag

I think that's about it.

NEW GEAR IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Got my Schubb 5th string capo for my banjo yesterday. Now to attach it I need a #55 (0.052", 1.32mm) drill bit to drill holes for the screws. Do you know how hard it is to find a drill bit THAT small?

I've found that the precip raingear lets in the rain when it's coming down heavy for a couple hours. Also, you have to be very careful with the pants or they will rip. I'm looking around to see what else is out there that's lightweight and waterproof.

I haven't gotten any new gear recently. I have on order:

2 person/5 day BP Pantry Vegitartian Food

New First Aid kit. It's 1/2 the weight (8 ounces) of my homemade one.

I saw a Marmot Dri Clime on the clearance racks at REI fer 60 bones, but couldn't bring myself to buy it (Me thinks my accountant would be a little upset :) ).

I think I'm at the point where I'm starting to pick and choose the purchases. I have asked for all REI gift certs for Christmas this year. Did the some thing last year and I was able to get my Casio Pathfinder watch. If I get the same "haul" as last year, I maybe thinking about exchanging my sleeping bag (REI Shasta +15) fer another set up. We'll have to see :)

Got My #55 Drill Bit Today, Thank You
I bought a pair of those MH Tempest gloves when they first came out. They were sold as soon as I slipped my hands into them. Even though they seem rather lightweight for winter gloves, I mean at 3oz and can hide in your closed fist and all, those puppies have kept my hands warm into the 20s when dayhiking. You got yourself some kick butt gloves bbinkley.

Got home to find the new STP catalog, and what did they have for sale but the rainjacket I paid full price for last year (or was it this spring). MH's Grade 6 rainjacket competes with Marmot's Precip, and now with the low price is even better.

My older precips leaked in MT. I bought new pants before WY and they were fine. I think ours leak because we use them so often, and sitting on rocks wears them out. I'm sending the old ones back after I wash them. I have the address somewhere. My jacket leaked where the shoulder straps rub. I'm washing them with some kind of waterproofing stuff tonight.

Yessuh!
I just got the latest Cannon ZR50 mini digital video camcorder for backcountry/travel excursions. Hell, I'm gonna film everything! So sweet. Can't wait to make some killer outdoor videos. Since I went for the cheaper camcorder (the Sony, though slightly smaller and with a better processor, was twice as much), I took the "savings" and bought a Cannon S30 3.3 megapixel digital camera as well.

Next up for xmas: Marmot driclime for me and the ms.

Are you getting the windshirt or the underwear/base layey?

I have the mid-weight base layer and am pleased so far. I haven't really had nasty weather in them yet though.

I have a cheapo HUGE duffel from WalMart that I put my backpack into. It was around $21. Course, I always do put bungees outside around each end as an added security measure.

I got a "waterproof/windproof" jacket and pants three weeks ago at Gander Mountain. They are by Pacific Crest. Am hoping for the best with them. Top was $79 and pants $59, I think.

I think it's called Pacific Crest.... something like that. I went to their website and all. BUT am not finding it right now (without having the product tags in front of me)

Looked like it should hopefully be good stuff, according to info on the website.

On our Shawnee Forest hike, I put on that jacket when I became chilled after the really strong winds kept blowing. Definitely windproof.

It's a light green and I'm wearing it here: Jacket

(I look like a dork cuz I have my cap on over a fleece headband... and also I had stuff in the front pockets of my vest underneath the jacket... and pulled it up, so it bunched out over the hip belt for comfort.)

Note the lovely camo fingerless mits also. LOL! I hate camo. However, at Gander Mountain it was either Manzilla woman's liner gloves for over $10 (how come the men's were only $3??!!) or these KIDS size gloves for $10... LOL!

And note my GPS in one hand... and really unobvious flipping off of the picture taker by the other.

:-) LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

I Got New Gears...Sort Of
Well, the search function works, and the past threads are still here.

Anywho...
I got'sk me some new gears today through the mail. I got me some new tuning pegs, Waverly V2 Vintage 2-Band Tuning Pegs, to upgrade my banjo...got rid of the cheap guitar-looking tuners and got top-of-the-line banjo tuners. Took over 2hrs to do the job 'cause I had to disassemble the original tuners, redrill the holes to enlarge them, install the new tuners, then re-string with new strings as I went. The baby looks and acts more like a real banjo now.
