“Hey Tilt! "On The Road" is one of my favs. It's an important book, I think. It represents the bridge from the beatnik era and the lifestyle carried through into the 60's and 70's. I learned a bit about him. My friend and I were trying to figure out where he was coming from and what his viewpoints were. He was no flaming liberal, by any means. I would venture to guess that he would be a conservative if he were alive today.

I'm rambling. But, the exhibit has a 60 foot showcase that has the first half of the original manuscript for 'On The Road.' He wrote the book on rolls of some sort of architectural paper, so as not to lose thack in writing it. Cool exhibit...

I never realised until all the hullaballoo about the 50th anniversary of Sputnik that anything "the Establishment" wanted to denigrate back then got the "-nik" affixed to the end.... A top official in the Patrick administration has been placed on unpaid leave because he was arrested in Florida and charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male in a steam room at a $500-a-night Gulf Coast resort.

Carl Stanley McGee, 38, assistant secretary for policy and planning, is scheduled to be arraigned next week for sexual battery in Lee County, Fla. McGee helped draft Patrick's casino bill, life sciences legislation, and his plan to bring broadband Internet service to the farthest reaches of the state.

According to police reports, McGee was arrested Dec. 28 and accused of performing oral sex on the 15-year-old, who was a guest at The Gasparilla Inn & Club, a 95-year-old hotel and championship golf course in Boca Grande. McGee was held overnight on a $300,000 bond.

Few state employees were aware of the arrest. An account had appeared in the local newspaper, the Boca Beacon. McGee's co-workers said they had been told he was out sick.

McGee, whose annual salary is approximately $150,000, could not be reached for comment. His lawyer, Charles Rankin, did not return phone calls from the Globe.

Kofi Jones - spokesman for McGee's direct supervisor, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Daniel O'Connell - issued a brief written statement saying, "Mr. McGee was placed on administrative leave effective January 7, pending the outcome of the matter."

McGee, a former Rhodes scholar and Harvard Law School graduate, was previously a corporate lawyer at the law firm WilmerHale.

He was instrumental in the movement seeking to defeat efforts to overturn legalization of same-sex marriage, serving as director of the civic and business outreach efforts of the advocacy group MassEquality.

A year after same-sex marriage became legal in Massachusetts in May 2004, McGee's wedding to John Finley IV was highlighted in the "Vows" section of The New York Times. Former state senator Jarrett T. Barrios officiated.

Known for his shock of platinum hair, McGee was named one of The Boston Globe's 25 most stylish Bostonians in November.

In the article, he described his style as "traditional, but it's also subversive and ironic."........

It had a tail and what looked like sparks trailing along behind. This one did not appear to burn up completely before it eventually went out of sight behind the trees. It was bright enough and big enough for me to see it in the brightening sky. Way cool!”

I'm convinced the biggest nastiest thing like that I ever saw must have been a hunk of space junk, back in 1991.   That sucker looked huge.... flying over quite slowly, lots slower than a meteor anyway, with glowing chunks falling off.   It couldn't have been very large ---- it was just relatively close by.   Can't say much about the colors (red-green vision problem).

But I'll tell ya, at that moment it looked like the freakin' end of the world, LOL   I was watching that thing cruise over and thinking "Am I better off ducking behind a tree, or should I jump in the lake?" LOL   Jumping in the lake would've sucked..... it was the middle of October.

Always check the telescope for "trick" charcoal on the eyepiece.
Learn how to make different kinds of telescopes.

The universe is bigger than you can possibly imagine. The hubble deep field picture represents just the galaxies behind a grain of sand held @ arm's length. Yikers. 10,000 galaxies in there if I remember correctly.

Those apod photos are colorized, the true colors are typically grayscale. What a rip-off.
Green laser pens a great for pointing at stars when you're teaching, and aircraft.
