Read about your first trip on ewkers thread--
Some things sounded very familiar--
Like the big green propane cylinders & Huge bottles of alchohol...also gals on the trip.
I spent a great night with a group of about 10 campers at Hobbs Cabin at the Savage Gulf several years ago in January--they had lots of 1/2 gallon bottles and about 10 of those propane cylinders and very good good taste in the ladies..
They said they were from Georgia--
By any chance --was that you?
I know this is a real stretch of reality to ask- but we had a huge time and heated the cabin up to about 80 degrees on a 10 degree night. I sure would like to hook up with that crew again.

Nope, twaren't me. At least not that particular time. One thing I recall about that trip is that I never mixed Everclear and Crystal Light Before Or Since. I also forgot my Cowboy Killers (Marlboro Lights) and had 5 cigarettes to last all weekend. That was a looooong three days.

I heard that. Did a solo up in Shining Rock a couple of weeks ago. It was great to get away from everything... but it could have been about 10 degrees cooler! Should've packed my swimsuit for that big stream.

Apparently this started back in 2003 when Mars was kinda bright for a while... (not nearly as bright as the Moon, however!)

Currently, "Mars (magnitude +0.5, in Taurus) rises around 1 a.m. daylight saving time and is high in the east by dawn. Look for the Pleiades to its left"

Now, on the 28th...

NASA Science News for August 3, 2007
Mark your calendar: On Tuesday, August 28th, there's going to be a dreamy, colorful, total eclipse of the Moon.

FULL STORY at

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2007/03aug_dreamyeclipse.htm?list100250

The Science@NASA Podcast feed is available at http://science.nasa.gov/podcast.xml.

For East Coasters, the Moon sets halfway through the ordeal... when it's at its darkest.  The further West you are, the more you'll see:

(click for More Legible Virgin)
(then click AGAIN for Actually Legible Virgin)

Pacific Islanders see the whole thing.

For East Asians, the Moon rises with the show already in progress.

Africans, Europeans and Russians are screwed.

And it'll help if you're a vampire.... until sunrise, at least.

Werewolves?  All bets are off.

WTF does happen when a werewolf is out there doing his thing and the Full Moon passes into Earth's shadow?

In all the werewolf movies ever made, I don't think this has been addressed properly.

I bet it   #&%!$s   him up.

Cool!

GALEX (not to be confused with "Daleks" LOL) is one of those small Explorer Class satellites... So small that it's launched by the Pegasus XL, from under the wing of a Lockheed L-1011 (like the X-15)!

It specialises in the ultraviolet spectrum which makes it perfect for things like this.

I was thinking "Mira" sounded familiar, like maybe one of the Pleiades, but it's in Cetus (the Whale)... more of a southern hemisphere constellation.  Its previous claim to fame was as a long-period variable.

I did a quick search and besides Mira Sorvino, there's a band in Tallahassee... LOL

(didn't "Omicron Ceti" turn up in an original Star Trek?)
