A good cold weather backpacking boot?View Messages“I have used Raichle mountain boots that I bought from L.L. Bean in 1989. They have given me wonderful service and are like new. I have recently bought Scarpa Inverno's and am very happy with them except that it hasn't really been cold enough in the Adirondacks so far this winter. SirPete likes the Koflach's althou8gh some of my friends don't lace them up all the way when they're walking. The advantage to plastics is that they don't squeeze your foot in snowshoe or crampon bindings (and they can be used with AT gear). The disadvantage is that they can be uncomfortably warm (and sweaty -VBL). I see that Swampyanke likes our Canadian stuuf - Sorels and Kamik. I use Kamiks with felt inserts and love them (Sorels are very bulky, but I've used them too), but the foot part is soft and will squeeze your foot in a harness/binding that's tight enough to work in rough terrain IMHO. Happy trails.” 5:03:55 PM 1/18/02
