Can anyone give me info on Maroon Bells? We will be out west this summer and would like to hike this.
Any info would be great.
Thanks

Never heard of it - I did a search on GORP and found this: (sorry, my html skills are nill).

By the way, if you call Colorado "out west" you give yourself away as a provincial easterner. How would you feel about me calling Michigan "back east"? just joking.

ALMOST did the hike to Conumdrum Springs, which is a different direction out of Aspen. All I know of Maroon Bells are the many, many great photos! Beautiful!!

I plan to see the Maroon Bells some day, packing in from the southwest. Every one who visits Aspen in the summertime HAS to see the Maroon Bells. So they have a nice little bus you can (have to) ride to keep all the SUVs off the lake. Also there are 3 14ers off the lake & some technical routes, so all kinds of peak baggers and climbing classes there on weekends.

I do plan to see them someday, but it will be off-season, packing in to avoid Maroon Lake. Call before you go to see what kind of transportation problems and regulations de jour you'll have to deal with.

I've heard Snowmass is much less crowded, and there are a thousand other gorgeous places to see in Colorado without the hassle.

Does that mean that we can say that anything east of the Mississippi is "back east"?

mb is awesome as is all bping in the aspen area.I went in late June so the high peaks looked awesome w/snow on em.I bpacked up to buckskin pass the view was jawdropping spectacular massive peaks and cirques. The pass is 5miles from the parking lot and is 12k ft.I gotta check out electric pass. The town of aspen is plain looking and u dont see peaks but u have to go up either castle creek or maroon bells roads and youll be entering hi peak country.Plan to spend some time in aspen if you love hiking hi peak kick ass country.
