“On the Sipsey thread it shows three pages, but the third one is a duplicate of the 1st. Something isn't right.” 2:26:47 PM 1/09/02 “That's because it has exactly 100 posts. For some reason that generates a ghost third page. I noticed that on one other thread a while ago.” 2:30:08 PM 1/09/02 “Yeah, I've noticed a few other times also. It goes back to normal at post 101.” 3:07:55 PM 1/09/02 “While we're at it the 'edit account' page still has the Tea-esque "State you of residence".” 3:45:09 PM 1/09/02 “Maybe "location" would be better than "state", anyways” 4:36:48 PM 1/09/02 “No. I think he put "state" there for a reason. You guys haven't submitted yet, eh?” 4:52:18 PM 1/09/02 “I don't see my state on the list..Everyone tells me i live in a state of denial *shrugs*” 5:30:46 PM 1/09/02 “Ok, I fixed the problem.” 6:13:07 PM 1/09/02 “Thank you!” 6:15:49 PM 1/09/02 “Why no Canadian provinces in the trails database? In Detroit, that's half of our regular hiking radius.” 6:35:21 PM 1/09/02 “Oh, I forgot to add my "please" and "thank you". Great site.” 6:41:18 PM 1/09/02 “I dropped the Canadian content because there was very little of it already in the database, and Canadian visitors compromise only about %5 of the total website traffic. So in other words, to much effort for to little return.” 7:47:27 PM 1/09/02 “Canadian visitors "compromise" 5% of the posters? For some reason I have flashbacks to my last trip to Toronto and the donut shop prostitution ring outside my window. Anyway, that's fair. Hodgeman, you heard the man, go away. BTW, how is this place doing financially?” 7:55:01 PM 1/09/02 “Financials? There are no financials. Because of the plummet in ad spending, I am just scraping to break even. Oh the day when I can do this full-time......” 9:12:32 PM 1/09/02 “You want to be broke all the time? LOL! Chin up Matt, it'll get better.” 9:14:23 PM 1/09/02 “If you charged for the photopoint KO thing that would help. Don't start selling TheBackpacker.com swag it's much more of a hassle than most folks can imagine.” 9:19:57 PM 1/09/02 “I still need to figure out about the photo album thingy. The software would not be hard to do, it is the extra hardware that might be needed. My hard drive is only so big, so I can only allot a certain amount for the photo albums. If people are wanting 20 - 50 megs a piece, that fills up the hard drive really quickly. So I either have to get a new hard drive or reduce the size allotment per user. Basically I need to figure out how many people would actually use it, how much space should everyone get, and what is a reasonable price.” 7:56:30 AM 1/10/02 “I know I would use it.” 7:58:23 AM 1/10/02 “Birch and I'd use it.” 7:59:26 AM 1/10/02 “I would pay, and probably not post a lot of pics. I have about 20 pics on my site right now.” 8:08:02 AM 1/10/02 “I'd use it and whouldn't mind paying for it.” 8:52:24 AM 1/10/02 “Disk space is cheap. Just look at what the other sites are charging per meg, take the median and adjust it until the price offsets your time, software and hardware outlays. Post the price and details and see how mwny folks sign up. If you don't get enough response (wich I don't think will be a problem) then all you are out is research time. Heck an Access DB would do the job just fine but you probably are running something like sequel. (haven't checked) Be sure to factor in a CD burn fee to be able to return folks' images if you choose to disable the feature in the future. It is a very sound business practice to draw up "divorce" papers before you get going.” 9:06:31 AM 1/10/02 “27” 1:20:59 PM 2/05/02
