What do you think it is? “Reviews, reschmoos ... what do YOU think is the best stove? Thinking about the Whisperlite XGX ... But what do I know (not much!)” 4:54:52 PM 1/09/02 “My Mom always had a nice stove.” 4:59:48 PM 1/09/02 “Best for what? Large group/solo? Boil water/backcountry gourmet? Desert/altitude? Summer/winter?” 5:02:45 PM 1/09/02 “Didn't we just have this thread? It's search time, ogregon.” 5:15:30 PM 1/09/02 “Yeah. On the Trail Talk main page, type 'stove' into the search feild. You'll get this. Not bad for a fart and boob board, huh?” 5:21:34 PM 1/09/02 “Wow, quite a list. I was thinking of the "help me spend my money" thread in particular as the latest to crank up the debate. Go to it ogregon, you have a lot of reading to do.” 5:28:36 PM 1/09/02 “Wow ... thanks for the tits. Uh, I mean tips.” 6:12:34 PM 1/09/02 “The whisperlight.....:) Crazy Mike” 7:31:05 PM 1/09/02 “Esbit” 7:35:55 PM 1/09/02 “Do you mean the XGK? It is what the dragonfly was based off of. Essentially it is a dragonfly that won't simmer for the same cost. It also looks kinda tippy. I would go with a whisperlite.” 9:01:47 PM 1/09/02 “Unless you hike in a lot of different countries the XGK is kind of overkill. Also, at 15.5 ozs it's about the heaviest option out there. The main feature is that it burns any fuel. On the other hand a Whisperlite will burn white gas, koresene, or in a pinch, unleaded gas. I can't think of too many places where one of those choices is not available. Steer clear of the Dragon Fly unless you like camping alone. Your hiking partners will kill you by the end of any extended trip. "Damn, I didn't realize we were so close to the airport SpongeBob." I have two stoves. A Pocket Rocket for the spring, summer and fall and a Whisperlite for winter.” 9:21:25 PM 1/09/02 “Yeah, the other adult leaders in out scout troop call mine the Boeing.” 9:23:01 PM 1/09/02 The very best stove ! “Well lets see, you didnt ask which is the hottest, lightest, most expensive, just the best. Answer for reliability, preformance, and years of service with no let-downs,-------SVEA 123 Yep. Windwalker. Web Master Woodland Trails” 9:34:48 PM 1/09/02 “And heavy as a brick. :) I still have my Optimus stove but don't carry it any more. They sure don't build 'em like that anymore.” 9:37:46 PM 1/09/02 “Absolutely.!” 9:40:40 PM 1/09/02 “While I use the Pocket Rocket for everything but summer now, I do have to say that my favorite one is my Optimus 99 .” 11:11:12 PM 1/09/02 “MSR Whisperlite Int'l Trangia Alcohol Pepsi Can - Alcohol Stove MSR Superfly Wood Fire - very lightweight and warms you up to boot! Depends on time of year, location and how concerned I am with weight.” 12:34:24 PM 1/10/02 “Ah the memories your picture brings up Nigal. The first backpacking stove . . . My Optimus was the blue one with the hinged lid. Looks much like yours. It's sitting in my gear hall of fame box in the attic. I keep telling my son that one day, that prized family heirloom will be his. Hey, wasn't it great when they came out with that pump you could screw on the tank. Man, thought I was in gear heaven with that thing. :)” 3:46:25 PM 1/10/02 “I have had my svea 123 for over 30 years and still works great. Fires up first time every time in -30 degrees and 4,000 meters. 110 degrees and sea level.” 5:09:25 PM 1/10/02 “whisperlite's the only thing i've ever owned, or used for that matter. i like it a lot but i couldn't say if i think it's the best” 5:13:08 PM 1/10/02 “Coleman-extreme series-- Sorry MSR users-These are the best!!!And safe too-I keep waiting to hear about somebody jumping off a mountain to put out the fire. I will say they boil water well. They stay so nice and clean too.” 8:49:04 PM 1/11/02
