“That UF/Maryland game was fun to watch. I didn't like the outcome, but it was a dandy for TV. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have had another color guy! I can't stand Dickie V.”

Their 9 pt loss to Wake Forest earlier indicated there was some promise and the team looks much better now. Could be an upset.”

Apparently the only film that MES saw of the Illini was the Providence game debacle and that fueled some of their players with enough courage to walk through the Illini warm up talking trash. Probably not the smartest move, as Illinois proceeded to hand them a 42 point loss.

Bad news for Illinois though. Deron Williams, their best player so far this year, took a hard pick and wound up with a broken jaw. Out 4 to 6 weeks. That should be one more thing to give Memphis confidence.”

Annually, the swallows return to Capistrano and every year, Big Gravy does something to piss off his coach. Graves didn't do anything overtly negative. His transgressions, such as tardiness, finally added up to a suspension. As fare as I know, it's nothing more serious. After the way he stepped up in the NCAA tourney, I was expecting him to come out on fire this season. Look for him to do some big things this year.”

“I'm not sure what Izzo is doing at MSU, but you have to hope this insane schedule pays off in March for his players. I mean, what can he be saying to his players? "Yes, we lost another game, what's new, but per usual, they were top 5 in the nation." MSU is obviously a good team, considering they have been in all the games they lost. I admire Izzo's gumption.

I love the Zags beating Mizzou. Though it will slightly diminish the majesty of Illinois beating the tigers (no, not Memphis) in the boarder war.

I really hoped that Marquette could close out on Zona, oh well.

Ga... I mean Jayhawks didn't miss Graves in their win over the Duckies. Anyone taking odds on IL and KS being in the same regional come March?

Lastly, Memphis brought their game to Assembly Hall, but that was their problem. The Illini just don't lose at AH (well, rarely). The Tigers came out strong, and Illinois may have been a little lost early on without Deron Williams, but the Illini are nothing if not deep, deep, deep. Sorry Chili, but if the Illini could hit the ocean from the beach wrt the charity stripe, they would have won by 20+. That said, scheduling the Tigers anytime in the next few years will be very Izzo-ish.

“Lobos were really bad, except for a close loss against Texas Tech. till a couple of weeks ago. Two transfers then became eligible. Wow! The Lobos have won 5 in a row and have not trailed for a single second since. The schedule hasn't been that telling yet, but they face #6 Wake Forest next Saturday. That will be telling.”

“Bama beat #18 Wisconsin by 13 or 14 or so. I don't recall the final score. We were up by about 18 with 3 minutes or so to go when we took our PG out.

I'm really impressed by this young team. They play hard and also play as a team. They are really fun to watch.”

“Rutgers lost a heartbreaker to #1 Connecticut last night by one point after leading much of the 2nd period. I can't really complain about their performance - Conn. is a really talented team... but it still would have been nice.”

“We'll see Tunacan. They're a young squad but after dropping a couple of wanna-be stars from the club this summer, they are playing very well as a team. There's still a lot of time until March.

The RAC is one of the toughest buildings in the country for visiting teams as Connecticut found out last night. The fact that they escaped with a win proves how good they are. Our coach was quoted as saying that Rutgers outplayed them and they didn't deserve the win.”

“Yeah, he usually displays a lot more class than that - I guess it was his frustration at losing such a close game that came through. Our senior forward was more adult about it. Rutgers pulled to within 1 with 7 seconds left on two foul shots. They were instructed to immediately foul the worst foul shooter but a freshman guard went for the steal instead. He's where the coach should direct his anger. Perhaps the decision not to purposely miss the second foul shot and go for the rebound and three points was a poor one too and coach should be mad at himself.”

Rutgers came back from 11 points down to beat #25 Providence on a three point shot with 0.4 seconds left on the clock. Rutgers had been down by 5 with 10.5 seconds on the clock. Now that's excitement!

I'll never forget the game where Eric Piatkowski shot a three-pointer from the corner and beat KU. They passed the ball in bounds with .04 on the clock. The dude was literally in his shooting motion when he caught the ball.”
