Charlotte has been quite the giant killer this year. They don't seem to stay motivated for the little guys though.

UNC will come around again, now that they have a real coach. When you lose a great coach like Dean Smith, the second greatest coach ever (behind Adolph Rupp), it takes a little while to recover.

Err, I think I would put John Wooden above Adolph Rupp!

Wooden was the greatest...He coached Lew Alcindor...

He didn't have staying power. Rupp was strong from beginning to end. Wooden was hot in the 60's then faded.

I would take either one over Tubby Smith right now.

See, Charlotte couldn't get by St. Louis. I didn't see the game, and it appears it was close, but with Charlotte's big wins, they should have won this one easily. Focus boys.

Florida lost again - at home. KY lost too. Miss St. is the stud in the SEC. ‘nuff said.

The Cardinal are shaking off their foes left and right.

Memphis – another win – is looking good.

Utah St. lost. So will ESPN get off the bandwagon?

Wrong again. Me, that is. I thought Stanford would finally lose one last night. I saw the last 12 minutes or so, starting when it was, I think, Stanford 45, Cal 42. Stanford missed some shots, but Cal was pathetic. Other than an uncontested layup at the buzzer, I think Cal made three shots from the floor in the second half - clang! All these wins have me nervous....

Fear not the wins, Bowlderman. Fear the ranking. For the mighty Duke has fallen to the Wolfpack, and the Cardinal will surely be target #1.

Kansas falls. The Bearcats drop one to the ACC. I'm curious what people think about CUSA.

Oh yea...UConn lost again.

FEAR THE JASPERS!!! They are coming to get you!!!

It is now official
The Kansas Jayhawks are having a bad season in basketball. There is disharmony on the team, and the shots aren't falling. I'm thinking that this state of affairs might bring the scalpers' prices down for the next home game. Hooray!, for old Dunadan plans to go and cheer them on.

Well, I'll take the #1 ranking, as long as they don't put Stanford on the cover of SI - the St. Joe's star is on there this week (no, not the swimsuit edition!), so they're pretty much toast....

Being a Rutgers football fan I know just how Va Tech BB fans felt yesterday when the score stood at 32-3 after about 12 minutes.

We've got a real good shot at winning the remaining games and staying on the bubble. I've got tickets to the last game against Seton Hall. It will be in OUR house and will be payback time (I hope).

I agree, WK. Arizona is also too highly ranked. If you have been near the top though, you have to really stink it up to fall out of the top 25 (see Missouri and Florida). If you have been in the top 25 and drop out, it is a very difficult task to get back in. You have to win back the confidence of the pollsters. Teams like UNC, Kentucky, Dook, and a few others I won't name, get the benefit of the doubt and will always be bumped up a couple extra spots whether they deserve it or not.

9. Kentucky 17-4 1,153 8

They are lucky to be nine, and are in reality about #20. Time for Tubby to move one to a nice little Div. II job and let Kentucky concentrate on luring Pitino back from Louisville. It was players recruited by Pitino that got Tubby to the big dance anyway. I could have won a national championship with his teams. Tubby can't recruit and can't motivate.

Harsh Stickman, harsh. However, you might be right. This season is a rough one on just about every team, except Stanford and St. Joe's, and Stanford is just about to become the first #1 seed to be knocked out in the first round.
I'm not ready to get quite as harsh with Bill Self. I'm gonna give him a couple of seasons to see which direction he is heading this team.

I'd love to see Okie State go deep into the tournament. In the past, however, they have been a weak tournament team.

How about the defection from the Gators? One of their star players just quit, midseason, and signed with a pro team in Barcelona. Billy Donovan must love this fine turn of events, especially in light of the teams status as being on the bubble.
I hope the Jayhawks stay off the bubble.

Lol those situations seem to usually end up as cases of "What might have been." It always looks good on paper, but the coming back to America for the NBA part of it seems to disappear. Oh well, good luck to the kid. I can't imagine what I might do if I were offered something like that, especially at 19-20 years of age.

Yeah, Stick, the way they flash the cash in front of these kids is a crime. What about allowing them the possibility of some time to mature?
Well, the Jayhawks got back on track last night. Baylor was just what the team needed. The last half of the last half was beautiful. Don't ask me about the rest of the game.

Stanford survived USC last night, a team that has a poor record but a unique matchup situation (although I can't identify it) that is hard for the Card. Down by 13 early, 8 at the half, but Childress poured in 36 on 13 of 16 shooting (3/4 from 3) and 9/9 line. A little unusual, in that Stanford rarely has one guy control the game.

Bama got down something like 29-9 against Vandy at home. We wound up losing 70-67. Bama needed that win to have a chance at being 8-8 at the conf. They need 8-8 to go to the big Dance.

Illinois had a similarly uncharacteristic offensive performance in their win over Wisconsin on Wednesday. Deron Williams decided to take over the game and dropped 31 on the Badgers. Illinois always has much more balanced scoring than that. The fate of the Big 10 title now rests in our hands.

I hate, and I mean hate, to say it, but the ACC is the big dog on the block this season. I'll be surprised if the NCAA champ comes from any other league, including the PAC 10.
Dunadan
1:12:07 PM
2/20/04

As good as the ACC is this year, I'd be willing to bet that the champ comes from a different conference. There are just too many good teams out there, and the tournament is about matchups and getting on a roll. Duke, who seemed to be the cream of the crop, has proven to be fallible. It wouldn't suprise me to see a team like OK St. or Miss St. go all the way.
hubcap
1:24:11 PM

I think there are about 4 teams who can play pretty dominately on neutral courts. After that there are about 20 who are all eligible to win.

I predict a 5 or 6 seed makes it to the big dance. Of course, it could be a cinderella year for someone.
chili36
1:28:12 PM
2/20/04

Hub, if you feel like betting any big sums of cash on OK State, you might want to look up their history.
I know the tournament is a different world. Heck, even the Jayhawks have the capability to go all the way, but they won't. The last couple of seasons, the Big 12 has been very strong, and put several teams deep into the tourney. I just think it's the ACC this year.

Time to fish or cut bait for the Lobos. They have shined and stunk this year. Road trip to BYU and Utah coming up this weekend, they've lost something like 22 in a row on the road. Mountain West is like that in general. Tough conference on the road.
