“I've been saying it for a while now, but what do you people think the odds are that Illinois and Kansas will be in the same region? I say 80%, with a 50% chance that SIU will be there too. Switch UNC with SIU and I say 30% chance.”

“Hubcap, you have the probabilities correct, probably. I think nobody from the Big 10(+1) goes very deep in the tournament, so the chance of Kansas playing Ill Annoys are slim. However, without prejudice, I see the Jayhawks winning that matchup. In fact, should they play the way they are capable of, (isn't that the question with every team?), that would be a good game to get Kansas ready for the tougher opponents down the road.
Illinois vs. the Salukis? Look out Illini. The Mo Val is always dangerous. In fact, I wish the conference would receive more serious consideration.”

“I have to disagree with your assessment of the chances Illinois and Kansas will meet. Unless you mean that Kansas will likely be bounced in the first round. Right now, I see the most probable seedings as Illinois #4 and Kansas #5. That means they would meet in round 2.

I don't think the Gayhawks are more talented than Illinois, but I am concerned that the Illinois players would be a little anxious playing against their former coach.”

“Dodder, a gracious post if I've ever read one. It was a great game. I had a feeling that once it was clear that the Jayhawks weren't going to fold, as has been their habit on the road, it was going down to the wire. I knew that they would need every point of that ten-point lead in the second half. Padgett didn't play all that well, but he buried the big shot. Another great game between the greatest rivalry in college basketball. I'm always amazed at how close these games are.
Kentucky made the Gators look bad. I would say that the Wildcats have to be one of the most dangerous teams in the tourney.
STANFORD! I agree with Stick. This will take loads of pressure off of them. You have to play with intensity, but you have to be able to play loose at the same time. This should loosen the Cardinal up a little. Now I predict that they won't go out in the first round of the NCAA tourney.
Wichita State Shockers win! They are 21-8 and I hope the committee gives them a shot at the tourney. Looks like its back to the glory days for the Shockers.

What you really have to wonder about is WHERE IS UCLA???? They have dropped off the face of the basketball world, and at a college that you could recruit for without even getting out of bed in the morning. I can't believe that they have fallen so low. Wish Duke would take a turn at UCLA's current level for about twenty years or so.”

“I don't think St. Joe's conference schedule should allow for a #1 seed now that they have a loss. I don't think Gonzaga will get a #1 either. Assuming Stanford doesn't fall on their face, I am guessing the #1s will be Duke, Stanford, Miss St or Kentucky (whoever makes it further in the SEC tournament), and....St. Joes. OK St. has an outside chance, but I'm thinking they are a #2.”

Now Dunadan, don't be attaching the classical Big 10 style of play to that of Illinois and MSU. Both of those teams are more than happy to run with anyone.

The real question is whether KU will be able to keep Arthur Johnson under 40 pts.”
