I thought the Jayhawks were supposed to be good this year or something. They just barely squeeked past St. Joseph's.

We got beat last Sat by Washington in the final game of the great Alaska Shootout. It looks like our freshman PG is progressing pretty good. That game showed him where the bar is for defensive intensity. We should be pretty good this year.

It hasn't been much of a challenge so far for the ACC. Wisky got the job done against the terps and Michigan State gave Duke a good game at Cameron but couldn't prevail. I can't believe Minnesota fell apart.

I'm heading home now to paint myself orange and blue.

What happened???
I thought Gonzaga was going to give the Illini a challenge, but IL systematically dismantled them. After that game I didn't think I knew if IL was really an elite team or not since they were not pressured at all.

Fast forward to Wake Forest.

WTF!! Same result.

WF is ranked #1 in the nation and I picked them to win the NC last year. Now I know that Illinois is the best team in the nation the last few years when playing on their home court, but are they that good?

Please, those that watched the game, ground me.

(p.s. don't tell me they shot the game of their lives, because they have done that every game this year so far)

Bama played East Tenneesee State, or something like that last night. They were an NCAA tourney team last year and went 24-7. Our true fresham PG had 18 assists and NO turnovers in the game. Bama hit 19 3's and won 114-77. Pretty good night.

Arky, many Illinois fans will tell you that they are more worried about the Arkansas game than they were about Wake.

Illinois was at home against Wake and that gives the Illini a huge advantage. There is fear of a let down after such a big game, especially against the improving Razorbacks who have had excellent recruiting classes lately, even with the loss of Al Jefferson.

Illinois fought off a tall, athletic Arkansas team to get a good win in a hostile environment. I was dissappointed in the officiating though. Too many ticky tack calls and they didn't let the teams play. It didn't help that neither team could hit the ocean from the beach at the line. Ronnie Brewer is good and I think the hogs will do some damage in the SEC this year. They are a legit tournament team.

It has been upseting to watch the progress or lack of progress the team has made since the departure of Knight.

The year they went to the finals was great. That team was a fluke though. They played like crap during the year losing to teams they shouldn't have and beating teams that should have whooped em. They were not the right team to play Maryland that year. They put up a good fight, but I would have rather seen Duke in there.

I have been an IU Basketball fan forever. I get nervous when they play Purdue (where I received bachelor and master's degree) and Illinois.

Speaking of Illinois, they are going to kick the living crap out of them this year. That game I will be taking comfort with a bottle of spirits.

Anybody see the whack that Bracey Wright took in the Mizery game?

Yesterday. Spencer Laurie, of the Laurie's that paid for Mizery's arena, apparently took exception to Wright's tight defense and did the old elbow swing to clear out space. Trouble is Wright's nose was in the way at the time. Busted it in two places. Laurie got hit with a flagrant and he was benched the rest of the game.

#2 Stanford women play at #9 Tennessee today. Great rivalry - you could probably credit these two teams with kick starting the popularity of women's basketball back in the late '80's/early 90's. Tennessee's won the last 8 times, but the last time Stanford won was the last time they were the higher ranked team, which they are today. Stanford's star freshman is the daughter of former major league baseball player Alan Wiggins. Should be fun....

WK,

Illinois got some retribution for Bracey tonight. Not the blow out that I hoped, but a win in a toughly contested bragin' rights game none the less.

At least it increases the advantage the Big 10 has against the Big 12 this year in head to head games.

I hope the tide rolls, but winning at the Kohl Center is not an easy task. You have to play against the Badgers and the refs.

Gonzaga seems to have matured quickly. As I've said before, Morrisson is going to be playing for money real soon. They didn't have an answer on defense for Illinois. They couldn't hang playing man and when they tried to zone, Illinois lit them up from outside.

Arkansas and Missouri had some success against the Illini by clogging up the middle and being very aggressive on the perimeter. That is what Duke successfully did last year in the tournament.
