It is very simple. There are 64 teams. Assign 64 points to the team that you think will go all the way. Assign 63 points to the team you think will be the runner-up. And so on down to the teams that you think will be knocked out in the first round. Here's an example, (but not my real picks).

64 Kentucky
63 Oklahoma State
62 Pittsburg
61 Stanford
And so on down to 1 point.




Now the whining and kicking and screaming has begun:

Even a fool like violin knew enough not to make a false statement, about this subject, for once in his life.

Any polite gentleman would have got his facts right. Not only have I never posted the teams in the vertical order that you seem only able to make sense of, but you may want to check that football contest again. I have had to juggle those numbers in my spreadsheets before. And I have done it without any complaints or nervous breakdowns. Not everyone has that rigid and unbending engineering mind. Any polite gentleman would have explained the rules. Any polite gentleman would not have a problem with those who decide not to goose-step with the rest of the herd.

I started the college football thread back in what… ‘91? We've had that contest every year since. Here is my post from 12/07/04 (before the ’04 football god contest):

TT football god contest:

We pick who we think will win each bowl game. We take all of the bowls ((28? bowls starting Tuesday December 14) and rank them by how sure we are of our pick. If we are absolutely positively sure that USC will beat Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, we would rank that #28. If we aren’t sure at all who the winner of the Florida/Miami Peach Bowl will be, we would rank that #1. For every bowl game you pick correctly, you get the number of points that you have assigned to that game. After all the bowls have been played, the contestant with the most points is the TT football god for the year.

Bowl picks must be submitted before 7:30pm, Tuesday December 14.




Notice how I explain the rules? Communication and clarity are very important in life. I hope your malpractice insurance is paid up.

Notice how I don’t say anything about descending order? That’s because I don’t have that rigid engineering mindset that says, “If the form isn’t filled out with a #2 pencil I can’t process it.”

If you were going to whine and carry on like someone who has had the score run up on them, you should have done a better job of fulfilling your obligation of being clear with YOUR rules.

I have a SS that lists everyones scores as they posted. I added a column that goes from 64-1 and another one that goes from 1-64 and have scores calculated for both scenarios.

Now how can I win that football contest? Before the bowls, I poured over offensive stats. I poured over defensive stats. I checked injury reports, rushing stats, receiving stats, ...

Then I made bowl picks that were so sorry I actually did worse than an engineer. Folks, it just doesn’t get any sorrier than that.


I knew nothing about basketball this year. I guessed at my picks.

And it looks as if it’s already mathematically over.

All I wanted to know was that I did better than some loooooser engineer. That's the most important thing in life.

“Arky is in mourning for the loss of his basketball program. He's been looking for it for a few years now. Sort of like arc and I have been looking for our football programs. arc - there is nothing that will get your hopes up quite like a new coach. Believe me, we've had 4 new coaches since '97. Heck, we've had 3 first seasons with coaches since 2001.”

It was a great defensive contest and UT proved themselves to be just enough better. I guess BowlderMan has never seen a game between two teams that have held their opponents to 60 or fewer points throughout the tournament. There were very few open looks and every shot was contested. What a battle! It all came down to foul shooting and with the percentage Tennesee got, they were hard to beat.

UT will wipe the floor with Michigan State and face LSU in the final game. Good luck to your team Ewker.
