And Memphis continues to roll.

UT still looked pretty good against them though.

UT knocks off #2 Florida 80-76. Florida would have been #1 next week since Duke got beat today.

Florida might have been #1, but they're not the best team in the country.

Play a schedule like Duke, then you've got a claim.

Florida will be lucky to have a number 3 seed for the tournament. Even if they were ranked #1 in the AP.

Tennessee looked good, chili. Great coaching job to get those boys so fired up. Congratualtions, you've finally got some men you can cheer for.

Yeah, this coach appears to be the real deal.

They gave Memphis all they wanted the other day and I think Memphis is a Final Four team.

The biggest problem we have is that we are only one injury away from a bust season. We already made it to the top 25 once this year and this one should propel them into the rankings again.

Our new coach is developing a problem. At the beginning of the year, all the fans said "if he goes .500 with the crappy talent he inherited, it will be a big victory".

Now, we have people talking about the sweet 16. Looks like he ratcheted up the bar by overachieving.

Isn't that typical for Tennessee fans? Rabid optimism? Moonshine fueled optimism? Delusional optimism?

I believe the outcome may be different when next these two teams meet.

I liked the special they had on Pearl’s practice demeanor. I like the guy’s attitude. It reminds me of Urban Meyer’s no-nonsense approach. Maaaaaan, I already can’t wait for next year’s football season to begin.

I hate to tell you guys, but it is only a matter of time before Pearl's true demeanor comes through and he does something to bring shame to the TN program. As UT's coach, didn't he already refuse to let a player out of a LOI simply out of spite?

coaches can do that if they like, no rule that says they can't. keeps from having to face that player when he plays against you.

True arclite. It is insane to think this team will continue to over achieve throughout the season. Best case scenario is they get in the big dance. If they continue to play well, the might.

I just hope the fans don't look at a trip to the NIT as a bum season.

Sure, a coach can refuse to release a prospective player from their LOI. But when there is a coaching change, especially when one is fired, any respectable incoming coach would agree to release a player who signed with the previous coach. But that's not Pearl's game.

Although Tennessee fans sometimes seem to take their optimism a bit too far to me, chili, that excitement is what makes college sports great. That's my idea of great fan support. It's actually one of the reasons I like the VOLS so much.

I hope they do well this year. They played with a lot of heart and intensity that was partly fueled by a rabid crowd.

Hasn’t your subscription to the National Enquirer run out yet, longlost? Florida's fans have nowhere near the reputation that Tennessee and Georgia have.

It is flattering, though, that both Tennessee and Georgia fans stormed their courts (and were both fined) after beating the Gators. Florida fans show more class than that. It comes from having a multi-sport winning tradition.

Tennessee got slapped down and fined, as well they should. The league will keep a close eye on them for some time. The Tennessee fans’ behavior was disgraceful. Tennessee fans (and their football players) are all a bunch of thugs. They should start jailing those kids so they could spend more time with their daddies.

I can understand the overwhelmingly elderly Florida fans getting intimidated by a large crowd but this smacks of sore-loserville.

I remember seeing a photo of an officer's revolver as it lay on the ground when he and his fellow campus police tried to prevent fans from storming the (football) field after the last ever Rutgers/Princeton game. If someone had grabbed it, it could have been bad. There's no way to have enough security in place to prevent it and trying could cause more serious problems then just letting the fans celebrate. Now the cops are instructed to get out of the way.

If the Florida team can't handle it, they should just stay home.

Mike Davis finally stepped down as IU's coach. It was a tough job to follow Bobby Knight no matter who it was. Some are calling for Steve Alford to be the next coach, but I think that would just be a sentimental pick. He hasn't proven himself worthy of coaching IU.

If I was the AD at IU, I would not offer the job to Alford. He has been spectacularly mediocre at best during his Iowa tenure. On the other hand, if I was Alford and IU offered it to me, I would jump all over it. After this year, Iowa looks like they are going to suck for the foreseeable future. Thad Matta might have jumped at the OSU job little too soon.

Wow! What a game!

After getting behind by 18 points in the first half, Rutgers battled back and defeated UConn to take the Big East title with a perfect league record.

This photo pretty much sums up how the game went:

When Rutgers took the lead, the RAC was so loud, my ears rang. UConn's 42 points was their lowest total since 1992. You want defense? We got DEFENSE.

See you in March, chili. Wear your crying shirt.
