When I saw that Hubcap picked Winthrop, I thought, "Is he on dope?"

Now I am wondering if he knows something I don't

Sure it looked that way, but Lofton's been hitting shots like that all season...after a while they call that skill. Even so, I think the Vols will be lucky to make the Sweet 16.

Lofton's shot at the end of the game was his only points in the 2nd half. Lofton was a non-factor in the game. Wingate was the big suprise, about time he did something.

Violin, you think the UT women aren't fired up. Army was ahead at one time 14-13 and then it was over. I think the team feels a little disrespected being put at a #2 seed.

The men's team, I am happy with them even if they did lose. NO ONE even thought the team would be as good as they were. They were picked next to last or last in the SEC this yr. How can you be disappointed in them when they came so close to the Sweet 16

I saw an interview with the Villanova guy that nearly had his eye popped out during the conf tourney. I'd been real curious about him but couldn't recall who he played for. The guy is playing in the NCAA's and his eye is fine. Simply amazing.

I'm extremely proud of the way Bama has played. We were just short against UCLA and had a chance to win it at the buzzer. We took a 3 point shot with about 3 seconds to go and down by 2. It clanked off the front iron. They gave great effort and really came together as a team, especially under the cirucmstances. Contrats to Coach Mark Gottfried and team.

It really would have been great. I was shocked UK hung as tough with UConn as they did. I felt like we'd play UCLA tough if for no other reason that CMG coached there during their last NC and still keeps in regular contact with John Wooden. I knew he'd be up for the game.

I couldn't see the Illinois/Washington game due to being on the trail. Checking some of the recounts of the game though (admittedly many by Illini-biased individuals) it sounds like there was some lopsided officiating. Illinois shot 11 free throws. Washington shot 39. I'm curious what some non-Illini fans who saw the game thought of it.

On the Lady's Side
I thought this was a cool story:

While the rest of the country reacted with Oohs and Aahs over Candace Parker's one-handed dunk on a breakaway just six minutes into Tennessee's rout of Army on Sunday, Pat Summitt wasn't nearly as impressed.

Yes, the Tennessee coach was happy for Parker, the redshirt freshman who had missed her only other attempt 24 days ago in an SEC game against Auburn. But Summitt was more worried about Parker's health.

"I've seen her do that [dunk] a million times in practice," Summitt said during a phone interview Sunday. "I was just relieved she didn't get hurt."

But when Parker dunked again in the second half -- this time on a give-and-go with Nicky Anosike along the baseline -- Summitt finally succumbed to the excitement, though the coach admits it took awhile to sink in.

"You know, I was focused and I was coaching, and maybe for me, I just didn't understand it for a minute," Summitt said. "When somebody told me they broke into an NBA game [on ABC] to show highlights of Candace dunking, I understood the significance of it.

"The baseline dunk was amazing. Candace is excited. I'm excited."

Excited? Pat Summitt? The coach who gets giddy about defense and rebounding, but never focuses so closely on the trees making up the forest that she loses sight of her path.

"Candace's game is a history changer," Summitt added. "There have been people in sports, in our game, who actually change the game. Cheryl Miller changed the game. Diana Taurasi changed the game. Candace is changing the game."

Summitt said she has seen a difference in Parker since the end of the regular season -- "there's more dimension in her game" -- and that the 6-foot-4 phenom who can play all five positions has elevated both her play and intensity.

And of course, Summitt is quick to point out that the dunk only goes so far.

"For everything the dunk is and was, it's the least-skilled thing that Candace Parker can do," Summitt said.

No but I picked them to make it to the sweet 16. And I used to live 15 min from Iowa City so I was born a Hawk fan. The only reason I didn't go to college there was it was free at St. Ambrose and I could still get a Engineering degree

So Rutgers and Tennessee advance to the sweet sixteen.

If Rutgers can play the way they did last night against TCU, it should be one heck of a game.

They showed one of the TCU players (Vanessa Clementino I think) literally blubbering after the loss. She made a huge spit bubble with her mouth on national TV.

Tennessee is a very talented team. Summit is a legend and a class act to boot. I’m sure that the majority of Lady Vols fans are fine people. Still… I want to see Tennessee fans with huge spit bubbles hanging from their mouths on Sunday.

Says the guy whose team got crushed by an 11 seed in the first round...

Smells like sour grapes in here.

I like taking my daughters to women's games and letting them see other females do amazing things in front of a packed arena. Something about developing a strong sense of self worth in a society filled with misogynists like arclight.

I remember when the women had a shot clock and the men didn't. The men's game often became a boring game of keep away for the last 10 minutes while the women were fast paced and exiting.

My 8-year-old is developing into a pretty decent athlete and wants to play for the Lady Knights in 10 years. Nothing would make me more proud.

If it wasn't for the girls where I grew up we could not have had a good game of sand lot baseball or backyard basketball...of course when you grow up in a town of less than 700 what do you expect. I knew one girl that could shoot the lights out of a hoop and she would whip the best in a game of HORSE. Our high school had a girls basketball team in the late 60's so I think it's the way it should be anyway.

Courtney WHO?!

All the hype about Courtney Paris (Bubba Paris's twin daughter #1) before they played my girls. Um, Courtney got schooled by Brooke Smith to the tune of 35 points on 14 of 16 shooting in Stanford's 14-point win.

Actually, Courtney has a great career ahead of her, being only a true freshman, and word on the street is that she's a great gal, too. Smith resisted the urge to boast about her own performance in the post-game interview, saying very nice things about Paris.

Next up: LSU!

I predicted a Stanford victory because the coaching staff is very good at preparing the team for a game where one player is such a major factor in an opponent's game. Also, they're kind of on a roll right now, and P.O.'d about losing the championship game in the conference tourney....

Congratulations to UT ladies.

There's a reason Summitt is the winningist coach. Putting 6'4" Anosike on 5'9" Pondexter was unexpected and effective.

Good luck in the rest of the tournament.

Patriots Stun Huskies, Advance to Final Four
George Mason 86, Connecticut 84 (OT)

WASHINGTON -- George Mason is no longer the cute little underdog. The Patriots, by golly, are going to the Final Four.

The suburban commuter school from Fairfax, Va., beat top-seeded Connecticut 86-84 in overtime Sunday in the Washington Regional final, ending the stranglehold that big-time programs have enjoyed for 27 years in college basketball's biggest showcase.
