“Somebody scored only 20 points in a game last night - that tied the post-shot-clock record for fewest points. Waaaaaaay back a million years ago, when I was still a student at Stanford, our men's b-ball team was not very good, and was set to be the recipient of a big ol' can o' whoop-ass from Oregon State, who was quite good. I returned from the library and thought I would turn on the radio and listen to the game. The announcer said something like "It's good - that makes it 16-14, Beavers." I thought, great, the game just started, so I can listen to it. Then it was "...and there's only 2 minutes to go." WTF?! It turned out Stanford had this game plan to just toss the ball around as long as they could, and it almost worked. I think OSU beat us 18-16 or something like that. Weird!

I look forward to good things once Billy G. has a chance to build his own team instead of relying on the Tubby leftovers. KU pounded Oklahoma. I don't know what is ahead for this team, but they seem to have figured out how to play together. The Jayhawks have had a different leading scorer seven games in a row now. Now, that's a statistic that I like.

Tennessee beat Ohio State because the score got too high. When those Big 10 (plus one) teams get near 60 points they get nosebleeds from the rare air.”

“Big 10 basket is more defensive than most confrences. Indiana has scored 100 points 3 times this year.

“The Mighty Tigers of Memphis should make it to #1 this week. During my first year at the U of Memphis, (Memphis State then), I thought the team that went to the final four was really good. The Memphis team this year is much better than that one. Tennessee is going to run into a buzz saw at Memphis.

Tennessee manages to win by just running teams in the ground. Tennessee is deeper than most teams in the country. However, the upper elite seem to have both depth and talent.

Depspite the loss, I still see Kansas, Memphis and UNC as being the best in the country. After that, there are about 5 or 6 more (UCLA, UT, Georgetown are at least three) that are good enough to get to the final four.

But they don't call it March madness for nothing......I predict this years Elite 8 to be the best group of all time from top to bottom.”

“After a couple of tough close losses, one in OT, and a couple of wins over ranked teams (both from Tennessee, ironically), it looks like Billy G and the team are starting to gel.

Chili, I'm as surprised as you probably were after coming out of the UT game with a win.

I stil predict that we'll have to chalk this up as a rebuilding season and at the end of the season we'll not have the record that has become our hallmark, i.e. a 25-30 win season.

Memphis took care of Gonzaga, but since it was on their home court, I won't give them as much credit as if they played away. I'm stingy that way.
KU got to play the Cornpones again with the same results. 44 to 15 at halftime made for a real sloppy second half. I can't believe the Cornies center didn't score at all. The Jayhawks travel to Manhattann to play K-State on Wednesday where they will get to play against one of the best players in the country in Michael Beasley. This could be the end of the streak for KU. Stay tuned.”

My girls and I had a lot of fun yesterday watching them overcome Villanova's amazing 3-point shooting performance to secure their 12th straight win. They face a make-or-break two week stretch starting Tuesday when they go against the #12, 21, 1 and 2 in succession. Go RU!

Well, all good things must pass and Kansas has won at Manhattan for 24 years in a row. It was time that the streak ended. Back when I was younger, there was no way to predict who would win between these two teams. Although K-State won't have near the talent next year, I'm sure their fans are relieved to have broken the losing streak. Look for the Jayhawks to get revenge when the Mildcats come to Lawrence.
