The truth hurts, dayhiker. Maybe some folks like pain. Are you some sort of masochist?

Nope, but I can agree to disagree without running down dissenting opinions. That's all it is, an opinion, not "the truth."

Ethical truth exists. Nobody is reponsible for another person's feelings, and that's the truth.

What's with your team folding to Ohio St? I predict a much tighter game the second time around, Nigal.
This has probably been stated before, but I think a big lead late in the game, (be it football or basketball), is the perfect opportunity to give your 2nd and 3rd string some valuable experience. That would seem the best way to build for the future.

U of M's basketball program hasn't been crap sense Fisher left. They should put the hockey team in Air Jordans and let them play. At least they know how to win.

ROLL TIDE!!! It looks like the team is growing up. Everytime Kentucky made a run, Bama answered. This hasn't happened on the road until now. Big win for Bama, Ark is next. That'll be a big one. The most difficult game remaining on the schedule will be Florida at Tuscaloosa. We haven't been able to keep it under 15 with those guys in the past. Should be another game to gauge whether we're at the next level, or just wannabees. I do think the #8 ranking is a little high.

ROCK CHALK!!!!
That was one heck of a game for the Tide. I didn't think they would pull it off. Looks to me like the Tide and the Gators are going to go down to the wire. Both are young teams and have a lot of talent that isn't fully developed, yet.
Jayhawks are playing Missouri tonight, in the Border War. I, (in my biased opinion), think this is the greatest college basketball rivalry currently being played. It stems from the parts the different states played in starting the Civil War. There might be some tempers flaring tonight.
Go Jayhawks!!!

I must admit that I didn't think we had it in us either. We played Missouri earlier this year. They jumped on us pretty good and every time we made a run, they answered. It seems like we got close at the end and then they pulled away. We lost by 7 or 8.

Dayhiker, isn't that the game where Kareem Rush got hit in the mouth? If I remember right, that was a tough fight.
Dunadan

I think that's correct. I believe he sat out the last half of the last half. Woulda been a bigger margin of victory if he'd been in.

Does Alabama typically play rough? I sometimes wish the refs would try to quell the shoving and elbowing under the basket. Seems like that is always the strategy against the Jayhawks, beat-em-up. This year, I think the rough teams will find that the Jayhawks are gonna dish it back.
Dunadan
5:52:48 PM

I don't think they play rough. They don't have enough inside depth to out slug anyone.

Big W last night for the Jayhawks. Very impressive. Did you see the t-shirts on the students "Muck Fizzou"
dayhiker

1/29/02

I went to one of the local taverns and watched the Border War with my wife and a big crowd. I will have to buy one of those Muck Fizzou shirts and give it to a Mizzou friend of mine.
The Jayhawks shot the ball from all over the court and Missouri couldn't defend them. My only worry now is that, because we beat them so badly, they are going to be super tough at Columbia.
It's always nice to spank the Tigers, though.
Who is on the horizon for everyone else's teams?

Memphis gets a test tomorrow with Louisville. Memphis has been on a roll for the past couple of weeks, but this rivalry is strong and Pitino would like nothing more than to beat Calipari on his home court.

Bama has built up a good rivalry with Arkansas, who we host tommorrow night. We travel to LSWhooo on Sat. This has turned into a blood match after our W there last year. Brady threw such a fit that he recieved two letters of reprimand from the conference office. He loves BAMA. We also have two games with Ole Miss in the near future. They spanked us twice last year. In about two weeks we'll know if Bama is for real.

dayhiker, I thought Bama was for real after they beat Kaintuck.
I remember when LSU knocked my beloved WSU Shockers out of the elite eight. Bring back Dale Brown! LOL
I think Pitino might be sorry that he took on Louisville. After Memphis spanks them, we will know more.

I like the way our players are saying they haven't accomplished anything yet. We won 21 regular season games last year and didn't get in. We scheduled and trounced Louisville. It wasn't our fault they had their worst team in forever. We didn't know that when we scheduled a home and home. We did have a late season collapse that didn't help. I read a quote where Gottfried said if we won out he still wouldn't feel secure about an invite to the Big Dance. I like the fact they are playing mad.
dayhiker

Absolutely, anger can be great for motivation. There are some coaches who can convince their teams that they are underdogs in each game, also. What teams did Bammy knock off last year?
Dunadan
10:01:56 AM
1/29/02

Louisville by 29
Washington by 9
3 point loss to Cincinnati
LSU
MSU
Ole Miss (I thought they swept us but as wrong)
Arkansas
Kentucky at Tuscaloosa
Auburn
Georgia
South Carolina
Ohio State by 18
We then finished with 4 losses. The last one to Ole Miss by 34.

We made it to the NIT finals where we got the crap beat out of us.

We finished 25-11.

Big win last night against Arkansas. I was worried about this game. Thought we might have a let down after the UK victory. With nine minutes to play Bama was up by 35 points at 92-57. Alabama played all 11 available players and 10 of them scored. After the subs came in Ark. went on a run, but we finished with a 15 point victory. Great win. We head to LSWhoo next.

Memphis shot poorly from the line but managed a 10 point win against a very inspired Louisville team. This Memphis team is not the same as they were in the beginning of the season. Finally, we are seeing some chemistry among this group. Wise had his 41st double/double last night, Wagner continues to be perhaps the best Freshman in the country, and Barron is returning to form. Burks has taken the point and is running it very efficiently.

Charlotte will be a test down the stretch, but I am looking foward to the prospect of meeting Cincinnati in the Conference Tournament.

How long is our winning streak now? Anyhoot,,, I'm expecting a great game against Marquette on the 2nd. Two great defenses going head to head. It will be a buzzer beater type of game. Hopefully with the 'cats on top.

Boy, I sure haven't had anything positive to post about my team. They reached some sort of peak against LSU and then they seem to all have had lobotomies. Lots of mistakes, poor passing, uninspired defense, and pathetic shooting, especially in the clutch. I can only hope that their youth is showing. Billy the Kid is not a happy camper right now.

Thank God, there is a playoff system.

Yes, Cincy is good, this year. Have you played Xavier, yet? You know what they like to do to the Bearcats.
I was the one who predicted the Memphis win over Louisville! The question remains, will Pitino honor the length of his contract?
Arc, I feel for you, man. It's tough when you see all of the potential going to waste, isn't it? There have been a couple of years when we have had great teams dump it in the second of third round of the tourney. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, still.
Dayhiker, just admit it, man. Your Tide is the real deal. You can't beat a Nolan Richardson team that easy very often.
Hey, FENWAY, if you are out there. We are going to miss the CO game. I picked up tickets to see the mighty Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse West (Bramlage) on Monday. Bought tickets only yesterday and got row ten on the side!!! It's another world in Manhattan.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel pretty good. It's been such a long time since B-ball has been good at Bama. It's been a long time since Wimp was forced to retire(for hitting his secretary). The late 80's seem like forever ago. The funny thing is, just a few weeks ago the nutcases on the sports boards were talking about how Gottfried was not doing a good job. They're drooling over him now. Our previous coach (David Hobbs) left things in such a sorry state that it's taken a while to build back. People just don't want to wait in our instant gratification society. Look what wouldn't have happened if Duke had canned Coach K after his slow start. I'm not comparing our coach to Coach K.

Good luck to all your teams, exept arc on Feb 23 at Coleman C., and Roll Tide.

Hey Dundadan - I thought AFH West was out here in Boulder, where KU fans make more noise than CU fans. Thats cool though, that should be a fun game. I'm getting psyched to hop on a plane and get out there, I saw Harrison from CU is already starting a little smack talk. I hope KU wins by 30. How bout that MU game? That 2nd half was a thing of beauty. Rock Chalk...

Dayhiker, Orien Green is our new point guard. He was Florida's Mr. Basketball (I think) like Teddy was, but he's no Teddy D. He's young though. He has shown potential and may come around.

Teddy Dupay was awesome. He was tough as nails. Alabama is seeing just how important a point guard is. Our freshman point guard is one of the main reasons for our success. He had 7 assists and 1 TO against Ark and their 40 minutes of hell defense. That's astounding.

Too bad our football teams got reamed. 21 schollies and 2 year bowl ban. We had several commitments from JC guys to fill the defenseive holes that showed up last year. It'll be hard to get a JC guy to sign when you have a 2 year bowl ban. It's like they say "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time" To come off probabtion and blatantly cheat in recruiting is unbelievable. We've hashed this out before so I'll shut up. I'm in shock.

Fenway, that second half was beyond belief! There was no way I could have guessed anything remotely like that would happen. My wife and I were sitting in the Red Lyon right in front of the big screen with Dick Vitale screaming in our ears. (I wish he wouldn't have let the secret of Hinrich out to the nation, though.) Coming down to earth, though, I thought Misery folded about midway through the second half. That is not usual for them. What bar are you going to be at before the game? My e-mail address is dpjp8@yahoo if you want to quaff a brew together. Then we could post on the "Who Have You Met?" thread.

Arc, Donovan will coach your team out of their mistakes, though it might not be this year. Roy Williams has been nursing the three great juniors along and now they are beginning to show their potential.
Dayhiker, it's not so bad being a "basketball school", which Bammy might have to resort to for the next two years or so. You get to be excited about a lot more games and there is a TOURNAMENT at the end of the season. March Madness is the greates sports spectacle in the world, currently.

Iowa was SUPPOSED TO BE GREAT!!! What happened??

And now for my REAL DILEMMA... I found a cap by the river last Saturday. A real nice cap, but kinda stinky from past canoeing, exposure, etc. I can't figure out what it's from. It has a "D" on the front...... some kinda devil logo on the back. VERY NICE cap! It's made to a specific size; there's not cheap adjustable band on this one.

So I'm thinking, "It will be GREAT to have this cap!!" (I like wearing caps!) I'm thinking it might be New Jersey Devils??

Then all of a sudden it hits me! Duke Blue Devils!! AAAAAAAAAAAAACKKKKKK!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKK!
I hate the ACC! (Oh, but Dick Vitale loves'em) YIIIIIIIIIIIIKEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!

Now what am I gonna do?!!?!? It's a nice cap! Well, maybe the smell won't come out and then I'll just have to toss it. hehehee

A lucky find!
You have a great opportunity before you, Liz. Invite your friends over and have a ritual burning of the evil hat. Only after having done a lot of voodoo on the hat and incantations and curses. You know it's the Blue Devils that have sold their souls and are keeping the rest of the really good teams, (like Iowa), from winning, don't you?

Jayhawks, victorious!
For a bad game, there was a lot of excitement in Manhattan tonight.
It came close to fisticuffs a couple of times and the K-State coach was called for two technicals and ejected from the game.
I like K-State except when they play the Jayhawks, but it felt especially good to go to their court and show them up after what they have been doing to us on our football field.
