Bucky is indeed tough at home. But let it out dayhiker. You know some of those calls down the stretch stank of home cookin'.

How about the classy three that Wilkinson jacked up at the end of the game. Gottfried didn't look so happy shaking Bo's hand after that.

Thanks for leaving Illinois the opportunity to crush the hearts of Wisky fans by beating them in their temple.

Was the officiating bad? I worked late and just kept up with it on cbssportline.com. A Bama board was fussing about the officiating but it's hard to tell if that's just sour apples. If you're saying it sucked, well, it sucked then. You don't have an dog in that fight.

Is it OK to talk about women's basketball on this thread?

No?

Tough #&%!$!

I'm very pleased with Rutgers' Lady Knights. Last night they really embarrassed #8 Tennessee.

From the Star Ledger

Rutgers so dominated last night's game in the first 20 minutes that Tennessee coach Pat Summitt broke her clipboard at halftime.
<snip>
"They made us look very bad at times, very bad," said Summitt, whose team was the NCAA runner-up last season.
<snip>

This will be a tough week as they take on #4 Texas on Sunday and #1 LSU next Wednesday. I think I'll have to take my girls to a few games this season.

dayhiker, your fans had reason to complain about the officiating. However, no more so than most opponents that play at Kohl. I am suprised that anybody is willing to play them OOC at Kohl, you just can't win.

We beat up on Wisconsin last year at our house, so I guess turnabout is fair play. Last year we had the toughest schedule in the country in both basketball 03-04 and football 03.

V - if you have daughters that like sports consider taking them to a college gymnastics meet. We went to them while in college. It's a big deal at Bama. Bama is always top 5 and has won several NC's. It's actually a revenue sport. There can be lots of pagentry at one of those things. Being at one with a full colesium and the speakers blaring is just as exciting as a b-ball game.....well, almost.

DROPPED FROM RANKINGS
Virginia 25.

ok, maybe the formatting isn't so bad

My questions about the rankings:

How is Gonzaga not in the top 10?

How is NC State still in the top 25?

The Zags have some top wins and they should be higher that a 17 seed. I hate seeding teams. Of course it makes it more interesting for us when you see a 3 and a 5 seed playing.

My guys (Stanford) were already struggling: rebuilding year, new coach. Now they had a kid become academically ineligible for the season - first time it's happened in 23 years. Also, another guy quit the team - Evan Moore, who wants to focus on football instead.

I read that they are planning to appeal the academic thing, since the rules are there to prevent athletes from skipping even the most useless basketweaving-type courses. This kid is a pre-med student taking some of the toughest human biology core courses and failed one, dropping him under the minimum number of units. I doubt the appeal will get anywhere - rules are rules. But it certainly does discourage student-athletes from challenging themselves.

Rutgers' Lady Knights just capped off a fantastic 8 day stretch last night by 'upsetting' #1 LSU.

I put 'upsetting' in quotes because after knocking off then #8 UT, ending then #4 Texas' 41 game home winning streak and beating the AP's #1 team in the span of a week, is there really any doubt about who deserves to be ranked #1?

I'm only sad that I couldn't interest either of my older daughters in going last night.

Congratulations. It's not so much that KU beat us, it's just that they sucked slightly less tonight than the Cats did. But a win is a win. I believe it's the first time you guys have beat us at Rupp. The season is young though.

I hope there is more to it than that. Leaving the starters in up 40+ until 1:42 to go and firing up a tre every trip down the floor...totally uncalled for.

Doing this again at the Hump just doesn't have as much luster to me after the way we played last night. Ugh.

Whoo Whee! The squakeyes came to play at Champaign tonight. I'm sorry Illinois played like crap and didn't blow them out like I would prefer every time the Illini matched up against these chit eaters.

Any way, Illinois won and Wisky's up next. Bucky, are you ready to put your nation-best home winning streak to test? I hope you survive Michigan (which I'm not certain you will} to at least retain momentum and allow for UI to test your mettle. But maybe a loss will spark you. It’s not easy to win at the Kohl Center and we want you (and the refs) at your best.

My guys (Stanford) have actually received a few votes in the polls the past couple weeks. I guess winning 6 in a row'll do that. They travel to the AZ schools next.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinal are 2nd in the coaches' poll and 4th in the AP. John Elway's daughter broke her hand in practice last week, and they had another season-ending injury, too. But all of their top players are still doing OK, including leading scorer Candice Wiggins, a freshmen who is the daughter of the late San Diego Padre Alan Wiggins.
