NOTE: I think the world of WalkinDude, and do NOT want for anyone to misread my post. So I wanted to make this clear up front.

==================================
I don't think I am going to Savage Gulf Feb 8-10. I know there are a lot of folks going, and I like WalkinDude a LOT, but I don't really feel like hiking out to Hobbs Cabin again. (I did it about 2-3 months ago.)

If anyone in the area wants to come hike in the Hot Springs, NC area that same weekend, please feel free to email me. I am going to drive up Friday, camp/crash and then hike all day Saturday and Sunday. I haven't nailed down my itinerary yet, but I should have it together in a couple days.

I just seem to have this passion for hiking the AT lately, and know I would enjoy doing this more than Savage Gulf.

Again, I think the world of WalkinDude, and do NOT want for anyone to misread my post.

Proposed itinerary for anyone who might be coming along: I have reserved a spot at Hot Springs Campground.

Campsite #453

They do not close the gates. You may arrive anytime Friday night. Most likely, it will be close to midnight before I get there. (leaving work Friday afternoon, 6-7 hr drive).

We will hike along the AT from Garenflo Gap to Allen Gap. (This is S to N.) From Garenflo Gap to Hot Springs, NC is 6.6 miles. This will be done Saturday morning in conjunction with TEHCC (Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club).

Our cars will be at Hot Springs with we step out of the woods, and we can repack whatever is requored to go from a 'dayhike' to an 'overnight'. From Hot Springs, NC to an unnamed 'campsite, spring and pond' at 4.3 miles. We will overnight there. (Total for Sat, 2/9 is 11 miles.)

On Sunday, 2/10 we will hike from unnamed 'campsite, spring and pond' past Tanyard Gap, and on to Allen Gap. (Total for Sun, 2/10 is 9.9 miles.)

After two days of 'having fun in the sun' we will have done approximately 21 miles and seen another section of the Appalachian Trail that includes 1) Lovers Leap (a large flat ledge jutting out over the cliff face 500' up from the French Broad River), 2) Rich Mt Fire Tower , 3) one (or two) AT shelters of typical variety, and plenty of nice views and moderate elevation changes.

Would anyone like to join me?

If you can't take off work Friday.. here's a perfect alternative.. We will hike all day Saturday and Sunday.. and I have a campsite reserved for anyone and everyone who drags in late Friday night.
