My interest is piqued with you chix and your toys, hawhaawwwww!

Yeah right on nig, if any of you actually cook, then you're gonna hate the Esbit and the popstove! Fax is fax, knowwhutImean!?

Le Subtle, I do use the popcan stove, with smallish kinda holes (can actually check the real size if ya'd like tom). But it ain't no engineerin' marvel, I can grant ya that! I didn't even follow closely the pattern, just cut it to whut I thought would work! A'course it took me acupla tries. And I do use Denatured Alcy. I cook like nigel does. All I need is boiling (correction: hot) water. 2 Tables of denat'd alcy will bring bubbles on the bottom of your pan holding a full quart of very cold spring/stream water. That's all I need for b-fast or supper. If the temps drop cooler then I expected, I've got a spare cupla or four oz'es to heat up a quart for the bottom of my sleeping bag at night. And I certainly use treated water. If I were still back East, I'd know when not to worry about treated water. But I do not boil to treat, just to hot me up some agua is all.

Oh yeah nig, you do know that reglar ole zip bags will hold boiling water don't ya? Don't hafta spend that extry buck or 2 on the freezer zips.

Which Stove?
I got an Esbit, a Coleman Featherlight white gas, and a propane canister type. It just depends on what I am doing.

Dayhike alone: Esbitt to heat water for drinks.

Dayhike with wife: propane stove, gonna have to make some good lunch.

Backpack: Coleman Featherlight, easy to carry the extra fuel, boils water quickly, can cook on diffrent settings.

Esbit Stove
I've been using my Esbit for about three years, but I haven't been able to find the 'cube' shaped fuel, so I've been buying the Military version of the fuel. It is fairly inexpensive, comes in a foil wrapped cover and burns extremely hot. I use 1/2 to cook my meal.

Esbit stove
It is called 'TRIOXANE', I got it from a military surplus store on the web. I don't remember the name, but I found a couple of sites for surplus and outdoor gear. I got it on sale for 30 bars for $6.00. I don't know if I would burn it indoors.

Esbit stove
I have also used it to start a campfire with great results, in all kinds of weather. Once it starts, even the wind can't blow it out.
