it is about complete abscence of hope--and drug addiction--which quite often happen to be simultaneous

I caught part of it on satellite a while back...pretty shocking, if you ask me.

it showcases some of the terrifying day to day realities for junkies. i agree goose, it was shocking. so now i have a warm puppy on my lap and am typing with one hand when i really should be getting to sleep.

It certainly wasn't subtle in the manner in which it portrayed the depravity of that lifestyle.

amen. no fooling around. i wonder who has the option to leave a film unrated??? can it open in theaters without a rating? do the gods in hollywood say that a movie HAS to be rated--i guess not--this one is unrated. i'm curious. i cannot imagine this film appealing to the masses. it's rough. and gritty. and sad.

Ellen Burstyn was great as was (Marlon?) Wayans. I thought it neat how the pupils dilated when they hooked up!!!

if you are looking for an uplifting "feel good" movie, check out "Eraserhead."

I've seen eraserhead. I think I'll stick with Mary Poppins.

I thought the movie was very well done, precisely because they didn't pull any punches about the "drug" lifestyle. The same person who made Requiem made Pi, which I also think is great. I like to see some imagination, and not the same old story line.

i saw this in the theatre! i had to cover my eyes in some parts, it made me so sick, and i was crying at the end. but i would rather see that than a feel-good movie any day of the week! i thought it was amazingly well-done...i especially liked the rhythmic visuals, like one time when he was injecting. i can't remember exactly what was on the screen, but the cuts were spaced so that i got the feeling of what was happening to (whoever Jared Leto's character was). this would be a really good movie to study in a film class...

lyra darling, did you see Breaking the Waves? Oh, painful. I started crying and couldn't stop (might of had something to do with the fact that my sister just died) but anyway, Requiem is having the same effect on me as Breaking the Waves. And how about Hilary and Jackie--it was so good! And sad. Why do I want to watch films like this instead of Joe Somebody?

nope, never seen Breaking the Waves...i'll have to keep my eye out :-)

want to hear something weird? a couple hours ago, i found out that my stoopid school cancelled the classes i was supposed to start next week, because they say they didn't get one of the eleventy million pieces of paper they needed. of course, they didn't CALL me or anything reasonable like that, LOL! those bastards! but now it's all worked out, and i'm going to be taking a film class now instead of boring old Literary Scholarship, which was all full up when i went to re-register. i bet i'll get to study some good films! kewl! :-)
