My trips have only been with people from work and other aquaintances. We know each other as Bill or John, etc. Do people actually call each other by trailnames instead of their real name when TT folks get?

I can vouch for that. I often refer to raddy as 'that sh!thead'. Funny thing is that everyone seems to know who I'm talking about.

I don't have a trailname. Le Subtil is just a log-in name. The Michigan Mountaineers seem to mostly use real names.

Isn't it convention that your trail name has to be given to you by someone? I'm afraid of what my fellow hikers would come up with.

Yup Limpy,.. all that`s been tried a time or two, but we`re talking about men that change their names three times a week. Every 600 or so bucks they become someone else so they don`t pay taxes, they`re hard drinking, fast fighting men, that come to play every time, for 12 hours a day and longer if it`s needed. They climb hot and cold steel like a cat goes up trees and climbing a man`s no problem for any of `em. Hot tempered men that`d just as soon fight as look at you, but all quick to smile and joke at the drop of a hat. It`s not in the name, it`s how you say it and it had better come with a smile!LOL

How sober you show up for work plays into where you start the day off and who you work with that can cover for you. No one gets fired for fighting on the job, it`s expected, but you can`t let a fight take all day and when its over they have to go back to work, or they don`t get paid. Most of them I`d never invite into my home, but hiking and camping with them is da bomb!

We`re talking about men that do the kinds of work no one else can, or will do. Men like that play as hard as they work and enjoy every moment of their time off and away. They work out in any kind of weather so, camping and hiking at the worst of times doesn`t slow `em down a bit. It`s when the weather`s so bad you can`t work that we get off to hike, camp, hunt and fish. Names don`t much bother men like that as long as you have a smile for `em!

Yup Skully,... LOL,.. what else are you going to do with a wild man when you pull him outta the woods? I took a job that would keep me out in the weather and feed my rush for excitement. I guess it`s that danger thing, I grew up eating it like candy and got a taste for it.

I`m getting older and better now so, I don`t run to the extreams like I once did, but you can see I have had an adventure or two!LOL

Gee Doc-
Are the calls not coming to the switch board fast enough to suit you today or what...
If you had a good call screener they might keep you from sliding over to this board at all.
My goodness if you had a producer that was worth a damn- they would keep you from slamming other people from changing TT names-

Big Foot - I work with steel workers all the time. I'm a structural engineer and have the utmost respect for what yall do. You can't see everything when you put it on paper. If something doesn't quite work, the steel guys always have a solution that engineers can't think of. Most of the time it has to do with us not fully understanding your capabilities. "You mean you can fit man in there and he can reach around that column and get a rod on it??? No f'ing way." That sort of thing. Hats off to the guys in the trenches.

Thanks dayhiker, few know what we do and it does take a strange breed of man for that kind of work. For the most part I`m a top millwright, but I`ve turned my hand to all of it at one time or the other. I`ve been in my share of bad spots and tight places and swore up and down I`d rather paint the highest watertower they got with a earswab while dangling off the cheepest, thinest rope they could find and I`d feel safer than some of the things they`ve had us doing!LOL

I guess you just gotta be there to understand it!LOL

As far as men to hike and camp with they don`t come much better, they can rough it, they`re strong as an ox and can pack kegs of beer and can afford the best cuts of steak! What more can anyone ask?LOL

Trail Names
I seldom call people their real name unless I'm calling them on the phone.
People call me Dude, walkindude, or WD. I rarely ever hear my real name.
