Gotta Spend $$$ In Order To Save $$$
I once threw down the plastic and got about $80 of merino wool hiking socks from STP. They all are just as kickbutt as Smartwool socks.

In Reno, the Sierra Trading Post is just across the street from REI, how handy for one stop shopping.

Chief, you lucky dawg!
show off! ;p

I have gotten some great stuff from this site. Prices can't be beat, but sizes and colors, etc. are usually limited.

happy shopping!

reioutlet is having a pretty good sale right now as well, 52% off TNF Talkeetna parka for example. Use this link to get to the Winter Sale (the front door won't show the sale items until tomorrow).

At the STP store I bought some inulated overpants from Timberland. Only 29 bucks what a deal. They seem to carry discontinued product lines from all sorts of manufacturers. Sometimes the sizes/colors are limited though.

These would be a good pair of snowshoes for a woman taking a trip to the 'Dacks.

Did anyone ever watch how much they mess round with their prices? I looked at the site ten days ago and was tempted by the Mountainsmith Ghost at 74.99, next thing I knew it was 89.99 - then they had a 20% coupon code while the list was still 89.99 (after discount price was 71.99), then it briefly went to 99.99 with no sale, now it is 89.99 with a special mark showing the price was "just reduced."

Are they playing games with the prices so they can advertise reductions? Do they raise prices so they can announce they are lowering them? Do the raise them so they can advertise heftier discounts? Or do they raise prices when items sell better than they expect and lower if they sell too slowly?

They get stuff from various sources so it may depend to some degree on what they end up paying for their stock. It's all overbuys and discontinued as far as I know.

If you'll really look hard you will notice that they may have a sale one week on a regular size sleeping bag and the next week it may be the same bag in xtra long size or...well I'm sure you get the picture.

If I'm interested in a particular item what I do is pull it up on something like Google Products and see what it's going for an other sites. Sometimes STP really is a good deal....other times, not so much.

This has been the exact same pack, I was watching it hoping for the price to go down and then seeing it fly all over the place day by day. I did grab it at 20 % of the 89.99 price - but I've checked back on the link out of curiosity.

It guess it is possible that they bought more stock from another source at a higher price since it was selling well.

I am curious. Because I do not shop on-line (no credit card) I have been limited to their catalog offerings. How do the catalog prices compare to the on-line prices? Has anyone run that comparison. If the catalog price is lower I would think they would have to honor that price during the valid time period.

Good point. I'll have to check some time, I think they still send me catalogues.

I ordered from there six times, half of those times they were out of the item, and when I did get something it took weeks.

my son always had good luck from the catalog.

That's weird.  Seems like whenever I ordered something the online prices jived with the catalog price.
