I was just out on this awesome trail near the San Joaquin River about 20 minutes out of Fresno, where I often do some day hikes or go mountain biking. Today I was on the bike and found some new trails, (probably made by cows) I was flying down this hill which was above the main trail and I saw these 3 day hikers giving me some dirty ass looks, one said I should stay on the trail. I was for all I could tell. They're probably a part of this group who wants bikes off trails. Personally I'd get rid of cows first, hit too many trail apples to count.

There are a lot of anti bike nazis out there. Just keep biking (on legal trails) and let them #&%!$. The truth is they're jealous that you're having more fun.

Cows are scarry
That trail is perfect for biking, not many obsticles, and no passes or rock steps to climb. However I did carry my bike to the top of a "Table Mtn." (volcanic bute) which was pretty cool to ride around on. It was like riding on the moon. Only there were cows there too. I spooked a heard of at least 150 head, they took off then turned and started moooooing at me. Kinda scarry me vs 150 fat cows mooooooing no less.

Some came flying out of the brush after I passed and I thought how bad that could have been if I was going a little slower.

sacramento area

showers lake is on the PCT you start off at carson pass ranger station.

across the highway is the trail head for that portion of the PCT and ends up at echo lake ski resort
showers lake is 4 miles in and then another 10 miles to the resort the lake is the only reliable water for miles so i camp there and hike the 10 miles out the next day. cows everywhere

Crazy, I hiked from Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite to Clarks Fork Meadows (near sonora pass) last summer. Only saw one cow at the end of the hike.

I was thinking of hiking from Tahoe to Sonora Pass this summer. Not sure if I could get the time off though.

Hikers vs Mt. Bikers vs Horse riders vs ATV riders vs Hunters vs Hikers. It's a vicious circle out there.

Hmmm...mountain bikers don't bother me. Human powered, quiet, and I don't mind the tracks. Maybe it's because I bike myself (not on trails) and understand just how much fun biking is? Anyway, it's motorized vehicles (4 wheelers, snowmobiles) that I don't like. Don't get me started, it could get ugly.

Well, I don't know about the sites. But I have friends who are mountainbikers and I am a rider and have friends who are. I can guarantee that what they are saying to each other isn't complementary in ANY way!

It would be fun to sneak over to some of them and see if they have an @ssholes with backpacks thread.

When I am biking I hate to see hikers on the trails. Their blood and guts is hard to clean off the chain and gears.

All seriousness aside, the research clearly shows there is no difference in soil impacts between hiking and biking. One study claimed backpacking had more soil impacts than bikes, but that was in a narrow set of conditions.

I found one.

I think it would be really bad for any (or all) of us to go and post messages on their board, don't you?

Sounds like that guy was just venting steam. He calmed down on the subsequent posts.

Some people are advocating duplicative single use trails -- one for bikes, one for hikes. This is a bad idea. That generates twice as much trail and twice as much trail generated soil problems. Sharing is the answer, not polarization and isolation.

HE CALLED US NAZI HIKERS!!!!!!!

That term does fit some hikers. There are a lot of intolerant purists out there. Fortunately, they are a minority. A vociferous minority.

Yes, I tend to get a tad 'vociferous,' like I did the last time I was nearly run over while hiking on a Well Posted foot-travel only trail.

The few (I hope) jerks are giving the rest of you a bad rep. Unfortunately, most of the time I see bikers in the woods they're blasting around blind corners in an X-Games induced frenzy.

I pray that these are the exception and not the rule.

Nazis. Right.
