I think it will depend on her job and another trip we were planning. I'd have to know exact dates in advance so I can talk the Army into unshackling me from my post, but I think you are narrowing down on a date anyways....no worries.” 9:26:01 PM 1/28/02 “OK Pennsy, maybe the Monday arrangement will work for someone else too that wants to do the whole trail. I can't cancel these appointments since they're out of town and it's hard to arrange to see both doctors on the same day.” 6:19:42 AM 1/29/02 “this weekend i went hiking through detweiler and alan seeger natural areas in central PA. awesome places with old growth forest and extensive rhododendron tunnels. everything is green, even in winter.” 10:28:46 AM 1/29/02 “Thanks for that info jmitch! Yet ANOTHER place in PA I have to visit this year. This state keeps getting better and better. Ok, here's the latest date proposal: Fri April 26 to Mon April 29 with the possibility of stretching to Tuesday. Yays? Nays?” 7:57:30 PM 1/29/02 “Myself and possibly the Mrs. will be staying over just the Saturday night...” 8:04:15 PM 1/29/02 “Could probably be on the trail by about 1 PM on Friday. Can hike 'til it's done sometime on Monday. My preference would be to start where we ended up last trip (Manor Fork Rd between parking and Pine Hollow Rd) and head north - counterclockwise - to end back up at Route 44 across from Big Trail Rd.” 8:13:35 PM 1/29/02 “Put me in the "Probably Going" box. Either Friday-Sunday or Saturday- Monday (not certain which one yet).” 8:18:35 PM 1/29/02 “I'm with Steiny on his suggestion to continue from where we left off last Fall. People starting out at different times on Friday can hike from the same (Pumphouse) parking area off Route 44 and meet at Foster Hollow Pond (mile 39.50) near a hunting camp, where there are two good size campsites with an excellent spring. Open areas next to the pond are great for stargazing (if the nighttime sky is clear enough). Might also hear Spring peepers serenading at the pond. Saturday's trek from Foster Hollow Pond passes some excellent vistas (mile 40.67, and also along the climb out of Slate Run). People who start out on Saturday could hook up with the others late Saturday morning at the BFT start (near Slate Run -- roadside parking there). Saturday night campsite could be at or near the Red Run-Morris Run-Slate Run areas (near mile 7.20) ...or if the Saturday trekkers are feeling up to it, they can huff & puff to the top of Chestnut Ridge where there's another nice, large campsite at mile 9.96. From there, the BFT is easy trekking along level terrain to Route 44, followed by a gentle downhill along County Line Branch. Campsites for Sunday night (and Monday night?) are negotiable, with several options depending upon distance traveled. There are parking areas at several locations with access to side trails, x-country ski trails, and jeep trails, to allow anyone to hook up with the rest of the crew - or bail out - on any day at just about any time. Some more of my $.02.” 9:17:56 PM 1/29/02 “The latest proposal sounds good to me.” 6:22:42 AM 1/30/02 “I'm in for Friday-Sunday” 6:04:28 PM 1/30/02 “M.silver I like 4X6's! But I'll take anything for free (throw back to my college days)!” 6:08:58 PM 1/30/02 “finewhine, 4x6s eh? I got somethin' for ya, man... Prints are not provided -- only professional *services* Gotta read the fine print, dude ;-)” 6:23:37 PM 1/30/02 “Hey M_Silver - keep adding your 2 cents. I'm keeping count and pretty soon you'll owe me a buck! BTW, I'll be bringing my camera also so maybe we can have a bidding war with finewhine. ;-) If I had my druthers (and my druthers are always changing), I'd leave home Friday around 6am. It's about 180 miles from Easton so perhaps the people doing the entire loop could plan to hit the trail by 9:30? We could park at one of the places on 44 that would fit into meeting the others (Steiny and MSilver) who are starting a bit later where they left off last year. I'd like to finish sometime Monday and avoid taking another vacation day on Tues but I'll leave it open. It sure looks like this is going to happen and I'm sure it will be a fun trip. We just about have the date locked in and we have puhlenty of time for the logistics.” 7:34:17 PM 1/30/02 “I am thinking about starting out on Thursday, the 25th. I want to do the complete loop and finish on Sunday.I will just start out at a earlier point and meet up with you guys on friday.Let me know where your starting point is going to be.Maybe I can talk whiny into joining me,but I'm not sure if he is planning to do the hole loop.” 10:42:34 PM 1/30/02 “I mean't Whiney” 3:02:46 PM 1/31/02 “I wouldn't mind doing the whole loop, but not sure I can get the time away. Might be able to if you can offer me some bribe $ for pictures! I don't think I can carry all those extra quarters in my pack for M. Silver or Pennsy! Sounds like I'll be nickeled and dimed to death on this trip! I hate that fine print. (There I go, whining again!” 6:54:23 PM 1/31/02 “Ahhhh..... so that's where the nickname came from. ;o) Hey, forget all those coins and just bring your credit card. I'll be kind though. I just ordered a new digi so all my pics will be available online.” 7:18:19 PM 1/31/02 “Pennsy, a new digi? Don't you also have a new tent? ...and new snowshoes? ...and a nasty credit card bill? ;-) BTW, spoke with my wife tonight about this trip and it looks like I will be allowed to come out and play with you guys!” 9:44:09 PM 2/05/02 “Yes, yes, yes, and a BIG YES. That's great that you'll be able to make it. I'm glad you had a good time in Florida. It must have been a fun trip.” 9:53:28 PM 2/05/02 TA-Daa! “I aleady have off for that Friday, April 26.” 7:34:50 PM 2/20/02 “Zooom.... right back to the top! Don't want to see this thread die. The proposed date is Fri, April 26 to Mon, April 29 with the possibility of stretching into Tuesday. Still early for all the details but I'd like to keep the thread alive in case anyone missed the original posts.” 7:35:30 PM 2/20/02 Great Minds Think Alike “Were we on the same wavelength there or what?” 7:50:45 PM 2/20/02 “I'm still in. I too got a map from Pinecreek Outfitters like Splash did so I can meet up with the group. It's a convoluted map to say the least, but the trail looks pretty interesting!” 7:52:20 PM 2/20/02 “Heaven help you if you are on MY wavelength! ;-)” 7:55:58 PM 2/20/02 Now Boarding for THE TWILIGHT ZONE !!! “as the theme song plays....” 8:05:23 PM 2/20/02 “hahaha! Well, I can see you're real busy at work again. That's great that you can make the trip. Will Mrs "A" be going?” 9:31:53 PM 2/20/02 “I suppose so.. we will have to see as we get closer to that date. Get your new Camera yet?” 9:35:41 PM 2/20/02 “I got the new cam last week. It is sooooooooo sweet!” 9:49:34 PM 2/20/02 “Can't wait to see some pics taken with it.” 9:51:19 PM 2/20/02 “I'm still in, and most likely Ian as well. Not sure which days, etc. but will work that out later.” 9:54:22 PM 2/20/02 “Still planning on it. Keep the thread alive.” 11:44:20 PM 2/20/02 “I'm still planning to go. Yeah finewhine, the map is just showing the convoluted trail. I made a copy and taped it together so I wouldn't have to keep flipping it back and forth to read it. Are some of you guys going to hike the whole trail in four days?” 6:21:26 AM 2/21/02 “I'm still in for Friday and beyond.” 6:44:24 AM 2/21/02 “Put me in the "probably going" files.” 5:16:43 PM 2/21/02 “I'm planning on a Thursday start and meeting up with the rest of the crew on Friday morning. Just need to now where you plan on starting and which direction your hesding.I planning on doing the entire loop, not including the side trails of course.” 3:05:09 PM 2/22/02 “I'm planning on a Thursday start and meeting up with the rest of the crew on Friday morning. He's gonna do the trail twice! ;-)” 10:46:44 PM 2/22/02 “Hey Silver What's this "probably going" stuff? I won't get discovered if your not there to take my pics to post on the web. Sorry about the double post, just checking to see if your paying attention.” 10:51:25 PM 2/22/02 “Not that ambitious!!!” 10:54:19 PM 2/22/02 “Hey Pennsey hiher, If you don't mind me asking, what camera did you end up getting?” 10:56:54 PM 2/22/02 “That's what happens when you get old landsurfer...you start repeating yourself!” 1:36:17 PM 2/23/02 “Oh, I don't you asking at all landsurfer. Just don't ask me how I intend to pay for it. I finally got my dream camera, the Nikon D1H digital SLR.” 7:40:15 PM 2/23/02 “landsurfer, April is far down the road and it's only February, so I'm still in winter mode (snow, ice, fleece, gloves, handkerchiefs for blowing the nose, taxes, etc). Can't think clearly too far in advance, though I did put in for that Friday off from work. But not to worry... if I don't make it, Pennsy's pretty slick with cameras. landsurfer, April is far down the road and it's only February, so I'm still in winter mode (snow, ice, fleece, gloves, handkerchiefs for blowing the nose, taxes, etc). Bartender!!!!!!!” 8:05:33 PM 2/23/02 “Ok ok That will be quite enough of that double talk.” 11:37:53 PM 2/23/02 “Ok ok That will be quite enough of that double talk.” 11:38:11 PM 2/23/02 “Ok Whiney, You don't want to get into the age thing, especially at your age.You just keep taking that geritol and mind the nice ladies at the nursing home. M Silver, I am aware of the talents of the Pennsey Hiker, as I visited his web site. I even downloaded a pic of a bobcat that is wallpaper on my comp.Gee, I hope he dosn't try to charge me for it. Ooops. April will be here before you can turn around twice the way time seams to fly anymore.Guess I'm just looking forward to the hike.” 11:51:33 PM 2/23/02 “I think that camera was more than the last car I bought, but looks like a real nice peice of equipment.” 8:38:20 PM 2/25/02 “landsurfer - didn't I tell you about the download charges? I gotta pay for the cam somehow. ;-) But thanks for the compliment although I desparately need to update my site. I haven't touched it in over a year. I'm hoping to get LOTS of material on this trip.” 9:07:14 PM 2/26/02 Jump to Page << prev
