Anybody work at REI? How much will I get back on $278 of dividendable purchases? Just wondering if it is worth it to pay $15 to join (again, damn).

Not if you get divorced and your ex takes it

It's worth it if you have one near enough to take advantage of used gear sales! Only members can buy from them now. $15 for a lifetime is a pitance.

the dividend is usually 8 or 10%.

I joined about 20 years ago-did not buy anything for years because we had great stores and better catalog offerings-anyway they cannot find my records and want another $15.00-
I used a buds' number on principle-

If you get their credit card (of course paying off every month) even non-REI purchases earn rebate dollars!

I bought an expensive item from REI and because it was on sale ($3 bucks off) it wasn't eligible for the dividend. WTF?

That really sucks.

I use the REI credit card and have been happy with the rebate program though...

I agree with you! Do you know when the dividend checks will come out this year?

in their membership materials they do state that sales items are not eligible for the rebate

Yeah, I can read, and it still sucks.

I've found the best way to use your dividend is to make a big-ticket purchase from them during the 20% off one item deal when you use your dividend. Even if your dividend is small, you can get 20% of any one item, excluding some really big-ticket stuff.

well, they dont feel like giving you a double discount. youre already getting a great deal. spend 15 bucks and get 10 percent back every year. that could be worth hundreds of dollars over the course of a lifetime

that is the reason I don't have a membership with them. I try to buy on sale 99% of the time.

I really miss my local REI store. I lost it when I moved from Raleigh, NC. Luckily, I now have a local EMS store.
