Some tents don't need to be seam sealed.

I aggree prowler-I bought a Mt. Hardware Kiva,$240.00 and tax.

I can't seam seal because of the weather conditions-how ironic is that?

Bibler suggest sealing ALL exterior seams and added a tube with the tent to do so.

and you DONT want to know what I spent

Yep - I didn't realize this was required. Bought my tent recently - assumed 'rain fly' meant that no rain could get in. In the first storm the seams were like little rivers. Not realizing I needed to seal them myself I called the outfitter and they agreed to do it for me. Rained this weekend and it worked out fine.

Good Point fellas. You dont buy a goretex jacket, go home and seam seal it.
I bought a Scottish "Vango Hurricane Beta" 2.5 person tent 6 years ago with factory taped seam sealing. It has only dripped from one spot where some elastic pokes through a seam. (Where it holds the door when its rolled up.

What's the reason they dont do it any more? Has anyone asked?

Lets give these ratbags a hard time. Stuff'em!

wwwwwwwhhhooooooo baby, love smelling that seam sealer.

some tents are seam taped (pre seam sealed), which works very well, in my experience. i'm not sure why more companies don't do this.

Why not do it indoors? just pick a room you wont need for a while an open a window? I've done that

I remember when we had to seam seal G-Tex. My daughter has my forty year old ventile anorack from Scotland, but I still miss it.

Hang it over the shower rod in the bathroom Josh man and turn on the vent fan. Just do smaller sections.

I hung my Integral Designs silnylon tarp from the ceiling in the garage and applied the sealer. Pain in the tail! I did a sloppy job too! I wish they would come already sealed, but that would mean the manufacturer would have to do more work - I feel sorry for them, NOT!

Try using a syringe next time like the ones used for saline solutions. Just cut the tip bigger. It's a lot easier and cleaner.

It's Getting Easier
McNett Seam Sealer now also gives you, along with the hand-held applicator bursh, a screw on cap with bristles so you can squeeze the tube and apply at the same time. I thought of that a long time ago, and I wonder what took them so long to come out with one.

Question: Has anyone seam sealed the *outside* seams/stitching of any of their shelters? And if so how has it held out so far? I'm wondering because my Trekker Tarp leaks around where the pole velcro attachments are and it'd be easier for me to seal the outer stitched surface than to deal with the underside.

Yes I have.

I have a MHW room with a view and had to seal inside and outside around the clear panel.

Works fine and it's been 3 years.

Dana tents come with a couple of tubes of seam grip and an irrigation syringe. It's a lot of work but I'm sure I do a better job than someone making $2.00 a day.

It needs to be set up and tensioned first or it won't hold when you stretch it out - only for seam grip, not that water based stuff with the foam applicator.

I seal on the outside where needed. Some seams can't be reached from inside. It doesn't look as neat but who cares?

Seam Sealing is always a good idea.. as if using WaterProofing on your boots.

Let's face it, nothing matching the human touch when it comes to small motor skills/tasks.

The problem with automated sealing is the same problem with any 'AI' task.

My seam sealing story...
I would always seam seal my tents as directed...two coats...very carefully, etc.

However, I bought a family tent last month and was in such a rush I only did one quick-and-dirty coat. You guessed...it poured and leaked in three places.

Now I am going to seam seal the fly over again and do it right...two coats and probably on both sides.

I use the seam sealer that comes with the tent.

Lots of squirrels here. They are everywhere.

California is great geographically. Sucks politically.
