I don't get the world any more! Where is the good hearts? I know I have one! 8)” 9:48:24 PM 5/20/02 “3% of money raised during these events went back to the for-profit company (Pallota) company that organizes the events... as a fee. If Avon could find enough volunteers to do the work that is done by Pallota there wouldn't be a need to hire them. However, it would be nearly impossible to find enough volunteers to do that. They work w/ the different cities/townships/school district/law enforcement/etc to create a route, find a place to set up our almost 2,000 tents, set up pit stops for water snacks and port-o-johns (rented $) every couple of miles. They provide three meals a day, traveling showers for 3,500 men and women, and semi-trailers to transport our bags. Aside from what they do during the 3-day event, they also have dozens of orientations, training seminars, etc during the months that lead up to the event. The staff is available to help w/ fundraising (they will come to your house and help you host a fundraising party). Of course, it would cost a lot less to organize a 3 mile walk at the local metropark for the same cause. And a walk like that would probably be able to give a larger percentage to the cause... But, that walk would generate less donations, less attention in general, therefore not benefiting the cause as much as this walk has the potential to do. Trust me... the more I heard about the "lack of money" going to the foundation, the more I had to think hard about the fact that I was participating in this walk. But, I have decided that it is still a worthwile cause and a worthwile investment of my money as well as the money of people I have asked to donate. Thanks again to those TTers who have made contributions!” 7:47:02 AM 5/21/02 “This came from Palotta Teamworks, the people who run the events (as posted on the Avon3-Day message board - http://boards.multicity.com/servlet/BoardView?boardid=1732418249&domainid=1270) Dear Walkers and Crew: There have been some erroneous reports in the media recently saying that the future of the Breast Cancer 3-Days is in question. We want to assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. The reports are totally false. Pallotta TeamWorks is hard at work on the 2003 Breast Cancer 3-Days right now, with plans to expand from 13 cities to 18. What is true is that the 3-Days will have a new beneficiary, and new sponsors in 2003. While the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade will no longer be the beneficiary, the Crusade remains as committed as ever to the cause. Both Avon and Pallotta TeamWorks are committed to a safe and successful 2002 season. With 5 walks down and 8 to go, the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Days have netted $22.25 million already in 2002. This is a huge result. These funds will go to important breast cancer medical research, clinical care, support services, education and early detection through the Avon Foundation. These first Breast Cancer 3-Days of the season have also produced major television stories and newspaper stories on the cause that have reached over 15 million people. This makes the success that much more overwhelming. Pallotta TeamWorks and Avon together applaud the heroism of tens of thousands of walkers and crew members who have netted over $116 million for the cause in just four short years. Pallotta TeamWorks will be announcing the new beneficiary of the Breast Cancer 3-Days in early July. In the meantime, to register for one of the remaining 2002 events, or for one of the new 2003 events, call 1-800-825-1000. For more information on the Avon Crusade please visit www.avoncrusade.com” 8:11:33 AM 5/21/02 The final countdown,,,, “The inagural Michigan 3-Day walk is this weekend! Thanks again to everyone who supported us. Our 4 person team (Sass, Tarabull, myself, and a friend) raised over $14,000 for the cause! We are all amazed that the generous spirit of our friends here. You are truly incredible people. At 1PM tomorrow, we register. Then Friday morning, 6AM, our adventure begins. I think we've prepared pretty well for our journey. At least physically. I can't speak for Sass or Tara, but I feel quite underprepared for the emotional side of the event. I better remember to pack the kleenex tonight.... Anyway, thanks again to everyone who helped, and we'll let you know how it goes!” 2:45:18 PM 5/29/02 “Don't forget to take pictures! Of the walkers, of course.” 3:42:16 PM 5/29/02 “good for you. im doing the NorthEast AidRide. Bear Mountian New York to Boston. 350 mile bike ride on june 19th. We want lots of pictures of boobs!! :)” 9:06:19 PM 5/29/02 “Yall have fun!!” 9:55:32 PM 5/29/02 “news.telegraph.co.uk Voyeur gets women to bare breasts for satellite (Filed: 28/06/2002) Four women have contacted police after being persuaded to stand topless in their windows or balconies so that a satellite could give them a mammogram. The women, aged between 19 and 45, living in the Algarve, southern Portugal, were all contacted by telephone by a woman claiming to be a doctor. She told them that a revolutionary method had been developed of conducting breast examinations by satellite. They were told that the consultation would be free if they followed instructions by stripping to the waist and standing in view of the satellite. One woman was so trusting that she took off all her clothes for the "examination". Later, the women were telephoned with the alleged results of the examinations. The woman claiming to be a doctor then told them of her sexual desires in graphic detail.” 2:12:55 PM 7/01/02 “Does medical insurance pay for that?” 2:47:01 PM 7/01/02 “Sure. We'll just need you to hold your ID card next to your breasts.” 2:50:08 PM 7/01/02 “Isn't satellite technology something? I guess they are really advanced in Portugal.” 4:34:11 PM 7/01/02 “You know, this isn't really that far-fetched. They now have x-ray machines in some airports that can see through clothes. And if you've ever looked at some of the satellite photographs you can get online, it's not much of a stretch to think that some defense department satellites could pick up nude sunbathers in detail.” 5:28:37 PM 7/01/02 “Finally, 8 months after the walk, I finally saw the video of the closing ceremonies. My sister-in-law and I balwed, my brother had to leave the room. I forgot what an impact that event had. Plus, my company just won the American Council of Engineering Consultants (Michigan Section) Firm of the Year Award, and I had a whole page in our submittal! I'd post it for you, but its a word document, and I don't think webshots will accept it. If you computer geeks (Violin) have a way to do it, please let me know! The page looks very cool!” 3:46:14 PM 1/20/03 “email it to me, I can post it on my site.” 3:48:51 PM 1/20/03 Keeping abreast of advocacy.... 4:26:02 PM 1/20/03 “ah, hem. I offered a way to post it, but I haven't gotten an email. Saw two new breast cancers today, three yesterday.” 10:31:11 PM 1/20/03 “Pathman, Smiley doesn't have puter access at home. How cool! When are you going to share the closing ceremonies tape with your two walkin' pals?” 11:01:45 PM 1/20/03 Thanks Sass. “I wasn't actually put out, I just wanted to keep it near the top.” 6:21:29 AM 1/21/03 “Thanks, Pathman. I'll send it your way. Sass, I'll share it with you as soon as I get a copy of it. I'm assuming that'll be after baby-time, mid February. My bro and sis-in-law aren't exactly the most on-top-of-it people. But I love 'em anyway. :)” 6:26:53 AM 1/21/03 “Well, I'm having a little trouble getting things to fit, but by scrolling you can see it all. I'll mess around with it later when I have more time. Photopage Avon” 6:55:48 AM 1/21/03 Thanks Pathman! “whoa! those pics are all out of order!! weird!” 7:02:06 AM 1/21/03 Hey people in Vermont, Utah, and Colorado! “Hey, I thought this was cool... a snowshoe benefit walk, sponsored by Tubbs: A Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer” 7:04:21 AM 1/21/03 Don't worry, I'm fine! “Oops! thought the thread read "Save Bobos, save lives"! Hey, I like boobs too. If we didn't have boobs where would we hang our tassles?” 7:11:30 AM 1/21/03 “Very cool SG!” 7:13:32 AM 1/21/03 “Try it again. I got the pictures in order. They were labeled image1, image2 etc, but weren't in numerical order on the page. Go figure. I'm not sure why it runs off on the right, it doesn't look like that before I upload it. Here is a gif image of the whole page that was in the folder” 7:18:25 AM 1/21/03 “Thanks for proving that there are a lot geekier geeks than me out there Pathman. Congrats again to all the Michigan walkers.” 9:24:33 AM 1/21/03 “Hope I didn't offend you, Violin! :)” 10:12:43 AM 1/21/03 Yet another fundraiser “Has anyone participated in Denim Day? I've organized one for my company. Its kinda fun, we're not allowed to wear jeans at all, and I've scheduled our Denim Day to be right before the big MSU/UofM football game, so we get to wear our college gear too! Of course, it costs everyone who wears jeans a $5 donation (or more, as I'm always encouraging everyone!). I'm also applying for a company match for all money raised. The really impressive thing (at least on the literature, I really haven't reasearched it) is that 100% of the funds go to the Susan G. Komen foundation. I think Lee Jeans funds everything else, materials, marketing, accounting, etc. If anyone wants to send a donation to be included with what my company raises (sorry, no match available for you!) e-mail me, I'll send ya my address. :)” 10:43:08 AM 10/08/03 “There's only one person in my company...me! Hell, jeans at work would be dressing up for me. Shorts, t shirt, sweatpants (sweetpants?) is my normal dress. LOL! How come we never see walks for prostrates? It's always about the boobs, huh.” 11:22:38 AM 10/08/03 “"Hell, jeans at work would be dressing up for me." or any pants for that matter” 11:54:29 AM 10/08/03 “For the same reason men have viagra but no birth control pill, I'd guess. :)” 12:06:15 PM 10/08/03 “i get to wear jeans, sweatpants,... hell anything i want at my job :) it's great. the salary sucks, but hey, i'm still in college, so who cares?” 1:17:57 PM 10/08/03 “Almost everyday at the closet before getting dressed..."Let's see here....I think I'll wear....uhmmm...jeans today." I love the IT industry.” 1:26:42 PM 10/08/03 “...and boobs...you just gotta love 'em! Never met a boob I didn't like.” 1:31:49 PM 10/08/03 “I got eleventy boobys! (them is teets).” 1:40:20 PM 10/08/03 “How come we never see walks for prostrates? It's always about the boobs, huh." Nigal Voorhees 11:22:38 AM 10/08/03 I'm guessing its because women don't go crazy over prostates like men go crazy over boobs. Just a theory, of course.” 2:50:00 PM 10/08/03 “Prostates just don't make a very attractive subject for a calendar or poster.” 3:07:05 PM 10/08/03 “Ze boobs! Oui oui, dat is wonderfuhl, haw haw! But ze demin? Pitooey, I spit on ze American fashion! Even my sheepherding uncle know better den to dress in ze demin, haw haw haw!” 3:13:08 PM 10/08/03 Breast Cancer Stamp Booklet “We need those of you who are great at forwarding on information with your e-mail network. Please read and pass this on. It would be wonderful if 2004 were the year a cure for breast cancer was found!!!! This is one email you should be glad to pass on. The notion that we could raise $35 million by buying a book of stamps is powerful! As you may be aware, the US Postal Service recently released its new "Fund the Cure" stamp to help fund breast cancer research. The stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda,Maryland. It is important that we take a stand against this disease that affects so many of our Mothers, Sisters and Friends. Instead of the normal 37 cents for a stamp, this one costs 40 cents. The additional 3 cents will go to breast cancer research. A "normal" book costs $7..40. This one is only $8.00. It takes a few minutes in line at the Post Office and means so much. If all stamps are sold, it will raise an additional $35,000,000 for this vital research. Just as important as the money is our support. What a statement it would make if the stamp outsold the lottery this week. What a statement it would make that we care. I urge you to do two things TODAY: 1. Go out and purchase some of these stamps. 2. E-mail your friends to do the same. Many of us know women and their families whose lives are turned upside-down by breast cancer. It takes so little to do so much in this drive. We can all afford the $0.60. Please help & pass it on.” 12:11:23 PM 2/27/04 “Sorry for the crappy format of this. Tarabull and Sass - did you guys sign up for the walk yet this year?” 12:11:47 PM 2/27/04 “I bought my stamps today, plus a book of the Egrets, too. But, I always buy the breast cancer ones if they are available.” 1:15:30 PM 2/27/04 “But boobs are from THE DEBBIL!” 1:16:20 PM 2/27/04 “< voice="homer"> mmmmmmmm,,,,, boobs...... < /voice>” 7:41:52 PM 2/27/04 “Hey Smiley, should I have a Tit4Tat SWAT squad straighten out bitpusher and Roam Around? (j/k ... Suomilainen [Finn] Women Are Tough, btw) Thanks for the heads up on the stamps. I'll bring it to reino's attention.” 4:53:16 PM 2/28/04 Save theese for me “ ”8:53:16 AM 4/21/04 Jump to Page << prev
