What are the best sunglasses to buy on-l ine?

“Looking for a GOOD pair of sunglasses to use during hiking. I'd like to buy them on-line if possible.

Recommended glasses? Stores to buy them from? I want these to by THE pair, so I don't mind spending a bit of $$$ to get them.

“Got a nice set of Bolles(sp) on line from REI.com They were on sale, they have those "hot deals" they call them. I wanted a set to backpack and use on my boat. These are inexpensive, light weight and polarized. Nice glasses for cheap.
Now I wear them all them time. The Ray Bans are in a desk drawer at home.”

“I checked out the Buzzsaws but they didn't fit my face very well. I ended up getting a pair of Bolles though with changeable lenses, a set of polarized ones, and darker non-polarized ones. They were about $130, but since I'm always scratching my glasses hiking or climbing, I can get replacement lenses for cheap.

I wouldn't buy expensive glasses online without trying them on first. Make sure they don't slide or pinch or just don't look good before you drop the cash. Of course buying online afterwards for cheaper is the best way to go.”

“My eyes are very light sensitive. Probably the result of a misspent youth. Cheap sunglasses don't work for me. I live in Florida and spend a lot of time on the water. I have always bought good sunglasses.

I have a pair of Ocean Waves. Great sunglasses. I love them for driving. They block a lot of light and are polarized, which helps on the water. They cover my eyes from sidelight, which I find to be important for overall comfort, but the allow peripheral vision. The only problem is that they sit very close to my face. When I work up a sweat, they can fog on me and the sweat drips down the lenses.

I own a pair of Oakley M Frame Heater glasses. I have the Black Iridium lens and the Fire lens. The fire must be a new lens because I couldn’t find it on their website. It’s similar to the Red Iridium but lets just a bit more light in. These glasses are very good for aerobic activity. They’re light, they have good air circulation and don’t fog, and they cover the sides of my eyes while allowing side vision. The only problem is that they aren’t polarized.

I own a pair of Cebe Cecchinel glasses. These are glacier glasses. They are very dark. I use them for backpacking at altitude. The only problem is the leather shields don’t allow much peripheral vision.

I own a pair of Julbo Micropore glasses. These are glacier glasses too. I removed the side shields and use them for backpacking. They are very dark, have good air flow and don’t fog, and allow peripheral vision. The only problem is that without the side shields, they don’t block sidelight.

I also have some Raybans for knock-around glasses.

It all depends on what you will be using the glasses for. I lke a dark lens for most uses, a pair of glasses that block sidelight, and I prefer polarization if it's available. When it comes to sunglasses, I've tried most of them at one time or another.”

“Does anyone use Glacier sunglasses? It seems to me they'd be much better for hiking with their vented leather sides and the longer ends in the back to wrap around the ear. I mean, wouldn't those stay on better? I'm going to be kayaking this year too, so I'd like something for both.

The are way too dark and don't have a great field of view for everyday use.”

If you use them in the cold, however, they tend to fog up if you get really sweaty. The only prob I've had is while riding in cold weather with them, but as soon as I got air flowing on them, they cleared up. No problems in the summer though.”

“Yes, I do have trouble with my Mainlines fogging sometimes since they don't have vents. I usually just pull them a little farther from my face, and they clear up. This has been a minor inconvenience for me, and otherwise these glasses have been terrific.”

“My sunglasses history has mainly consisted of Wal-Mart and Target fare. I'm considering spending about $50 for some decent glasses. I'll mainly use them for driving and just daily stuff, nothing exotic. Hiking doesn't need to drive the purchase.

Not sure about the model you're looking at but the Dash is great. It's super light, I barely notice that they're on. Polycarbonate lens, 100% UV protection. Good for active sports - running, biking, hiking, kayaking.”
