Biz - I have also been working on a treeless, stickless tarp pitch using my external frame pack as one of the poles, This won't last long though because I will be working down to a
smaller
pack eventually.

wsdavies - from what I've seen of other ultralighters you had it pretty nice - I think sharing gear with a partner helps out. What were the three discs?

Biz--I have the kelty Vapor which is the same pack as the Flight but it is made of that white spectra cloth. I don't use the padded belt and I don't use the stays. I use the thermarest to make it hold it's shape. It weighs 18 ounces that way. The last few trips I have used a silnylon poncho for a house. The last canyon trip I took just after Christmas I had 18 pounds for four days. That was one quart of water and we bought some food at Phantom. Most of the weight was clothes--I was afraid of being cold.

I don't know the name of the straps but there are some at the base of the pack that pull it in to your hips. I keep forgetting them but when I cinch them up the pack rides nice. I have had it for just over a year now and it is still my favorite.

Coop...I had one disc of electronica/ ambient dance music..for the great star filled nights. One was a mix of various artist..Styx, Eagles, Deftones, Zeppelin, ect.. The 3rd was some real bassy house music, which I'd put on when baggging the long tedious passes like Mather.

As light as my gear was I gotta say I was never uncomfortable, cold, or hungry...Lightweight is the only way to go..some of you don't know what your missing..Really!

What do you guys think about the Golite Land and Earth packs? I'm eyeing the Land as a change to my heavy but loved Gregory Palisade. I'm trying to move to the lighter trend.

I have been eyeing the GL Earth. I don't plan to be hardcore ultralight - just lighter - so this pack seems perfect. I would like to see one first - or at least hear some reviews.

I've been looking at that one too. I can't tell much from the site though.

Found one more source for an 8'x10' sil nylon tarp . unlike Campmoor - they also offer a stow sack. They also have a neat lightweight pack on this site.
