The weekend is actually shaping up quite nicely considering I'm not backpacking. I'm selling my house. The first step was to evict my freeloading leech roommate though. After I sell my house I will be free!!

I am going to travel around the world, backpacking to my heart's content Ü Ü
I know ya'll don't believe me, but after I don't post for 6 months you will start to wonder.

Christine
Skullcap, you guys didn't happen to name your car Christine, did you?

One of my friends went to a shop, to install a remote starter in his new AWD Eagle Talon (stick shift). He went to pick it up at the appointed time. He was sitting in the waiting room reading a magazine when his car rammed thru a wall (more like a partition) and struck some piled up new tires. Somehow the technician focked up the wiring or something. When he pressed the remote starter to test it, the car leaped forward. Luckily no one was in it's way, and there was only some very minor surface paint damage. Naturally, my friend freaked out. I think the shop deducted $150.00 from the bill.

Happened again.....
Oh, I forgot...3 or 4 months after my friend got his remote starter installed...his car lunged forward again. Luckily, after the first incident at the shop, he always uses both hands while operating the remote unit (one thumb on the "start" button and the other thumb on the "off" button)...he was able to turn off the car immediately. It turned out that, that system used a toggle switch (in the stick shift) as a safety switch...if the stick is not in the neutral position, the car wouldn't start. Somehow, the toggle broke (maybe from the cold Canadian temperatures). Anyway, he brought the car back to the shop, and they installed a magnetic type of safety switch. Sheesh...can't trust mechanical stuff. Lesson here is, never stand in front or behind a car while it is being started.

It sure would be nice if we got a day off for the president's birthday, like they do for the Queen of England. Of course, then we would have a lot of people voting for a candidate born on July 3 or December 26, just for the long weekends.

This evening I'm unloading the piolet, crampons, plastic boots (the leather ones are stuffed with newspaper and drying out after we were blown off Algonquin in the Dacks last Monday by a snow squall), rucksack, etc. and putting in my overnight bag.

Saturday morning I'm driving 750 km (450 m) up to Sudbury in northern Ontario to take my daughter and her boyfriend out to dinner. Sunday I'll take my daughter out for breakfast then drive home. After that, it will be time for Tonka's 12 000 km first tune-up (I got it 6 February).

My son is manic-depressive and I've been a little worried about him lately. I called him Tuesday and things seem to be all right, otherwise I'd have postponed my trip (it would have broken my daughter's heart - she can't wait to show me her very own new apartment).

Wednesday morning after thinking about it during the night I unplugged my 'phone. It would have been too late to postpone my visit then and my daughter deserves a dad too. If anything happens, my son's girlfriend will have to deal with it until Monday.

Take care, everyone.

Got sunscreen, hat and shirt. Added TP and a few other things after checking a list (felt like I was missing something). I'm at 31.5 lbs (includes camera, tent, stove, food & water, chair, GPS, 2 way radio, bear canister, trekking poles, etc). If my Weekender canister comes today, I'll switch canisters (saves 10 oz).

I will be sterilizing my house this weekend and shopping on line for new gear (hey, it is better than nothing!). My daughter is finally starting to look a little lively again after getting pneumonia on Sunday. My husband is getting over the flu. So I'm wielding a washcloth and bucket of clorox and water.

I have to leave Monday for a week in Vegas (work is just killing me these days) so I probably need to stay close to home this weekend. However, a daytrip to Ft Pillow might be in order Sunday.

Looks like I'm up for a tent camp in the backyard with my six year old and friends. I was thinking of getting all my backpackng gear out and "roughing it", maybe getting them interested in gear would get them interested in getting into the wilderness.
