Fall colors are at peak or just past peak here in S.E. Louisiana. Though we don't have the widespread displays of other parts of the country, we had some brilliant reds and oranges on some trees, especially last week.

Naw lizs, it's TRUE. Typically in south Louisiana the fall colors don't peak until mid-December or early January. Late November at the earliest.

But this year "fall" came very late, we had more hot and steamy days (prevailing winds from the steamy Gulf of Mexico) than cool ones well into December, and only now are we seeing the "peak" of fall color.

Wow. Well I guess it's a whole different world there. It was ubelievable to me that fall colors would be coming in January.

Turn, turn, turn...
While they are probably weaker trees showing some stress from hot, dry weather, the first little bits of color change in the Northwoods is now evident along the route I took up to Marquette this weekend, particularly along Wis. Hwy 70 east of Eagle River.

It was a bit of a shock, but then I have to remember that school starts next week, and that color peak in northern Wisconsin and the U.P. might be as little as 4 or 5 weeks away. Just nature's way of telling me I frittered away my summer.

Sorry, lizs; I was just trying to not duplicate a previous thread with a new one on the same topic.

Interesting to compare our Northwoods color season with S.H.'s deep south season. When "autumn" doesn't come until January or February, those southern trees must start budding a few days after they drop their last leaves so "spring" can start down there.
