In response.....
As I was hiking recently I got to thinking about wrist top computers / altimeters and thinking it would be nice if they gave some estimate of linear distance also like a pedometer

GPS, not an estimate, but an EXACT distance travelled. -then I was looking at my new treking poles and thinking it would look good right on top of the pole and would allow the computer to count pole plants - after some calibration this should be as good as a pedometer for estimating linear distance.

The GPS doesn't do the pole plant count, but not sure why it would be necessary. My money is on an exact plotting of distance travelled rather than an estimate based upon how many times you stick your hiking poles in the dirt. As for sticking the thing on top of your hiking poles, how about super glue? Personally, I prefer my GPS close to my chest. I keep it in a case on my sternum strap. Not only will it plot the distance you travel, but it gives ground speed, altitude, and many other tidbits of information. I only wish I could afford the Street Pilot III for my car.

A torture device for mosquitos. I don't just want to fend them off or even kill them quickly. Those puny basstards should SUFFER and DIE.

Prolly Next Year
The Petzyl Tikka with a sliding on/off switch that slides over and lights just 1 led, slides a little farther to light up 2 leds, and slides even further to light all 3 leds.

Buddr:

I talked with a guy who runs an led light design co. and they said they were coming out with something similar to what you describe but it's 7 leds in a circle and you turn the bezel to increase or decrease the number of leds lit.

I wish someone would make high quality, full grain, one piece leather backpacking boots in a narrow, low volume fit. 10 years ago a few companies did, today forget it.

bastards who ruin Christmas!
I just wish they would make THESE
my Christmas prezent

in large. I got them for Christmas but they were too small, so I sent them back and that darn company said they were out and weren't going to make anymore.

small chuckle from that site Mooch - at the top of the page it says "click to return home" but the font is such that it looked to me to say "dick to return home"

those mittens did however look very interesting too bad the company dropped the line
