Rain GearView Messagesrain gear “just wanted to see what type of rain gear ya''' are using. I'm trying to decide on new rain gear, my colemans from Sam's Club are getting old and the zippers blew out some time ago.” 12:36:22 AM 1/20/02 “I got a Marmot jasket & REI pants.” 3:16:27 AM 1/20/02 “I have Marmot Thunderlight suit for altitude and winter. Campmor gortex for the rest of the time. The Campmor is half the weight and more compact.” 7:48:07 AM 1/20/02 Deja Vous! 7:59:14 AM 1/20/02 “Marmot Precip jacket and pants. Very good and lightweight.” 8:28:28 AM 1/20/02 “Mountain Hardware Ethereal Jacket and Pants. They have stood up well with some hard use. I like Gortex in all except long, relentless downpour (moose "hunting" or fishing in Alaska) for which I have some Helly Hansen stuff.” 8:50:18 AM 1/20/02 “L.L. Bean Torrent parka and pants.” 11:32:00 AM 1/20/02 “Froggtoggs I just started using 11.2 OZ, normally Gortex NorthFace and Marmot pants!” 11:35:08 AM 1/20/02 “LLbean- economy vinyl type jacket & pants- Goretex Wardens parka for cold.” 12:09:35 PM 1/20/02 “frogg toggs check them out at www.froggtoggs.com they work great. I wear mine all the time even at home when not hiking.” 12:37:46 PM 1/20/02 frogg toggs “I read the BP'er review and have decided that that sounds like the ticket. It sounds roomy enough to layer cold weather clothing under it and use FT's as an outer, weather proof shell. The price is very reasonable at 61.oo (with shipping charges) Anyway...I should have my set by this coming thursday. I will post a review as soon as I actually sty dry in them. Thanks for the comeback. Buddur, I have a poncho, cause of the lack of closures, I still get somewhat wet, or rather damp, I am looking for actual total coverage. thanks.” 7:24:51 PM 1/20/02 “TNF Mountain Light Jacket and pants.” 8:47:50 PM 1/20/02 “” 10:16:39 PM 1/20/02 “a href=<"http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=10626396&prmenbr=226> TNF Anorack that only weighs 6.5 I got one in size large, I liked it, but it was a little small so I sent it back and I'm waiting for the XL.” 10:17:29 PM 1/20/02 “DOH!!!!!” 10:18:10 PM 1/20/02 “DOH!!!!!” 10:18:41 PM 1/20/02 10:21:44 PM 1/20/02 “Ok I'll shut up now.....” 10:22:22 PM 1/20/02 “whoa... six posts in a row. Pretty good, but nowhere near the record, *G*” 11:15:31 PM 1/20/02 “Yes, I believe I hold the title for the most dismal string of bad HTML posts. LOL!” 11:30:52 PM 1/20/02 “Oh yeah... I scraped up a bunch of change and got the Twilight jacket and pants from Sequel about 5 years ago. They ought to last another 10.” 11:33:54 PM 1/20/02 wsexson.....LLBean Torrent gear “I was checking these out over the weekend in my handy dandy catalog....what's your overall opinion?...” 2:57:51 PM 1/21/02 “my rain gear consists of a $5 orange safeway pauncho. guess i need something more?” 3:00:49 PM 1/21/02 “Been using the Marmot Precip Pants (6.4 oz)and love it. Just got the Precip Jacket (10.5 oz) in the mail yesterday.” 11:51:32 PM 1/21/02 “Moonstone Momentum Tech (Gortex) jacket Jack Wolfskin (Goretex) jacket Campmor full side-zip rain pants I am now the proud owner of some frogg toggs. Low tech, light weight.” 11:47:13 AM 1/22/02 “Who's used RED LEDGE???? Gots to know the lowdown!!! Are they highly breathable?” 12:28:52 PM 1/22/02 Rain Gear “Went to REI last week to exchange my Sierra Designs (SD) Alpine Start (M) for a (L). It just wasn't roomy enough. Very breathable and lightweight. I like it a lot. Oh yeah and they gave me $60 back cause it went on sale. I have the Marmot Precip pants.” 8:35:10 PM 1/22/02 “I have the SD Peak Bagger Jacket. It was a great jacket for awhile. On the Lassen BP it got soaked. I don't know if I just wore it out, or if it was from using liquid detergent. I read somewhere that you're supposed to use Ivory snow or something like that. Up til then it repelled water. SnowDude has the Alpine, and the water beaded/rolled off, but his is still fairly new. I just got the Precip Jacket on sale for $71 (incl sh/h).” 10:27:14 PM 1/22/02 A Good Piece Of Rain Gear Is A Deck Of Cards “Don't forget that raingear for inside yer tent! Something to keep you busy, that is.” 2:38:24 PM 1/23/02 “I thought that's what the SO was for.” 2:39:39 PM 1/23/02 “Rudolph the Red knows rain gear.” 2:40:53 PM 1/23/02 “sorry!” 2:42:35 PM 1/23/02 GANG “Thanks for all the great gear ideas. I have a great anarak, fleece lined that I wear for cold weather as a jacket, its water proof. It was christmas tonight santa showed up driving his big brown truck and left a package...a brand new set of Frogg Toggs. it poured like a mutha this evening, so donning my new rain gear, I went out and played in the rain...I have never run into a fabric like this and I was overwhelmingly surprised that I stayed completly dry in the rain...my neighbors probably think I'm nuts...splashing in the rain and playing with the dog at 11:00pm. cool stuff. the only way I can describe the fabric is "like a brand new handi wipe. I'm sure once the stuff breaks in, it will be like butta. light weight and roomy enough to slip on over any of my jackets or many layers, pretty cool stuff and good looking and stylish too. man o man...bring on the rain...I;m ready.” 11:33:51 PM 1/23/02 “Marmot precip jacket and I use columbia omni tech pants and they are great.” 7:45:25 AM 1/24/02 “This is still my standard: Campmor breathable water resistant wind pants $17 http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=53701&prmenbr=226 Campmor breathable water resistant wind Jacket(Anorak) $20 http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=53585&prmenbr=226 And don't leave home without a Poncho $20 http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=226&prrfnbr=20297 Wear wicking layers underneath. Works better than water proof because the sweat will evaporate through the nylon material. The poncho is for downpours. In a light rain your body heat will evaporate the moisture as fast as it hits you. The poncho doubles as rain gear and as a ground cloth if you use a tarp. I also us it during the trip for a dry spot to lounge upon during rest stops and lunch. Also it is good for changing clothes under in the parking lot or at a crowded campsite when you are using a tarp (if you're modest). Gotta have a poncho!"” 8:29:06 AM 1/24/02 poncho “Is that a real poncho, or a sears poncho?” 1:41:42 PM 1/24/02 “Click an paste my man and see the wonders of campmor.” 2:06:19 PM 1/24/02 “Breathable my ass. I have that same jacket and it's coated with 600 mm of durable polyurethane. I sweat like a pig in it under any type of sustained activity. I take it in the summer as a windbreaker when I stop or am lounging around camp but I would never hike in it.” 3:09:35 PM 1/24/02 “Mine's not coated with poly. They have two types: a waterproof; and a windproof. You must have the waterproof.” 7:24:53 AM 1/25/02 Sound Like A Deal??? 10:42:24 AM 1/25/02 “Well, the link yoiu posted was for the coated. So there!” 11:00:47 AM 1/25/02 “roseymonster You are right, I am wrong. It is coated. The thing is, you will get less moisture retention in it than in a "waterproof" jacket. And, it will dry much faster. Anything nylon is gonna make you feel like a sweat-hog during activity. The thing is the drying rate and that moisture does pass through. The poncho is to keep the heavy rain off.” 11:12:02 AM 1/25/02 Red Ledge Reply “I have had a Red Ledge XL Thunderlight Parka (15oz.) and L Pant {9oz.) since last May (birthday present). They have held up well and are fairly breathable (about on par with my old 3-layer Goretex, but much smaller, lighter and cooler). The chest and pit vents in the parka help a lot. If I were to change anything, I would probably get the full zip pants. I still sweat, but I sweat in shorts and a coolmax tee if its over about 75° when I'm hiking. They work good if its under 65°, above that, I usually use my old poncho, which is getting pretty worn out, has anyone had any experience with Campmors Ultralite Extension Poncho/Tarp ?” 9:00:09 PM 1/25/02 “Budder, I just got mine from altrec.com for $68.97 + $2.99 s/h. Ordered it and received it in the mail 3 days later.” 9:53:12 PM 1/25/02 Thanks...That May Be A Deal 10:34:21 PM 1/25/02 You Must've Got It At The Right Time 10:37:23 PM 1/25/02 “Our local outfitter has them on sale right now for 25% off. That's not bad, I may pick one up.” 10:39:37 PM 1/25/02 “no rain gear for me. like plants, i like to be watered” 11:25:31 PM 1/25/02 “Light weight Gortex Jacket?” 9:00:27 AM 11/11/09 “OR Zelot” 10:21:20 AM 11/11/09
