Backpacker - Wilderness Opinion Survey

“I just got a little card from Backpacker offering a couple free issues and some other booklets if I participte in this "unique BACKPACKER trial program."

The survey is 4 lame questions beginning with "Should all-terrain vehicles be permitted on all hiking trails?"

c'mon

Must be some Marketing piece - don't they know I already subscribe?”

“Apparently not. They can pull some fairly Bozo tricks once they get warmed up.”

“What are the other 3 lame questions?”

“I have a 4-wheeler back home...but i only find them fun on dirtroads, fields, and planted pine plantations...i couldn't see taking it into the Bankhead area...maybe the conecuh cause it's really just a planted pine plantation..but they reak of civilization..and that's why i goto the beautiful places...to quiet all the noise...and the voices..the contant voices!!...*looks around*”

Are the dangers of drinking untreated backcountry water are exaggerated?

Should private property owners have the right to use their land as they see fit, even if the property is home to an endangered species?

Should Grizzly bears be reintroduced in wilderness areas that have few human visitors?

The last two do require a little thinking - I just wonder what they're gonna use this rather unscientific survey for?”

“Ya I got it and I filled it out.I don't know why they would send it to me becuase my sub don't run out untill 2004....?”

“Those questions are carefully worded to elicit a predetermined response.”

“Yeah - I agree Gordon - so I don't really understand why they would send it out.”

“Seems like a ploy to extend your subscription to me. Anyone w/o a subscription get a questionare?”
