Does anyone know if the Hilleberg 3 person tents really can handle 3 people? My sons are both headed towards 6 feet and I'm on the verge of getting a 3 person Hilleberg... but I'm wondering if we would really fit.

Pedxing, Hilleberg gives it's dimensions on it's website so you may be able to take a tape measure and using string illustrate for yourself on a floor what it might look like and see if that's enough room for you. I did this when I couldn't decide if I should get the Nallo or Akto. Hilleberg's hoop style tents have near vertical walls so seem to have good elbow room. Four people would be able to sit in a Nallo 2 and play cards since it has so much elbow room. The 2002 Nallo on the Swedish site has a lower roof in the back and is tapered and weighs a half pound less. The Akto is changed there too with lighter weight and a vent over the door I think. Their dome style tents have more floor space to compensate for more sloped walls. You can always email them since they are helpful.

-X 2 what richb said-

with that adjustment (Akto), they saved 1/2 lb....

Thanks/Follow-up
The dimensions seemed uncertain to me... with factors like the angle and curve of the inner tent hard to figure... So I wrote to Hilleberg and got a very helpful response from Petra Hilleberg (or someone who emailed over her "signature"):

I would probably recommend one of the
three person tents that have two entrances, ie. Keron or Saivo.

One of the smaller Nallo or Nammatj 3 might be tight on a longer trip
for three people of your size. The slanted ceiling reduces weight but
for taller people (even though the inner tent is longer) there is a
chance that the feet touch the rear wall of the tent, especially if snow
packs on. On shorter trips this is usually not a problem but on longer
trips it can cause inconvenience.
A Keron has two entrances and vestibules and therefore the inner tent
has vertical walls. The inner will therefore feel larger and you will
never have the problem of snow packing on to the tent and pressing it on
to your sleeping bag. Even though you add a little bit of weight I think
it is well worth it.

I hope this helped.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with more questions.

Sincerely,

Petra Hilleberg

COMMENTS : Please tell me if your three person tents, such as the Nallo,
would provide enough room for 3 people each 6' tall and about 180 pounds
on average?

I am thinking of winter backpacking trips... mostly in the mountains of
Maine and New Hampshire of up to two weeks long... with occaisional
exposed camping above the tree line.

Thank you.
