How many SUV owners out there???
I broke down and traded the mini van in for a new GMC Envoy yesterday. It's really fun to drive and my children don't call this one the nerd mobile...LOL!

We got my wife an Envoy in November. She loves it. I must admit it is one of the nicest overall vehicles we have ever owned. After driving it that was all she wanted. I hope she lets me use to drive to Mel's car-camping trip.

Congratulations!

We also have a 1991 Geo Tracker (160,000 miles with a broken engine).

Crazy Mike,

650 miles r/t to go snowboarding every weekend in the winter.

Spring, summer, fall is
~200 mi one way to Lone Pine (min)
~280 mi one way to Bishop (lotsa hiking around there)
~320 mi one way to Mammoth (max)
....and that's every weekend. (50 consecutive weekends last year, 47 the year before). Yes, a lot of miles, but I get oil changes/tire rotations every 5,000 miles, and the reg maintenance done.

20 miles to kayaking

this baby is going to last me a while longer (I hope)

A sensible SUV, Forrester. I got a good deal the last selling day of September. Allowed me to park the F-150 4wd, long bed with a pop up camper unless the family wants to go camping.

Hummer's, Land Rovers, Benzo's, B'mers, ect...!!!! How many here would take their $60k+ SUV with the leather interior, CEO pkg and glossy paint job offroad to tangle amongst the branchs and rocks. The way I look at if you have the cash to buy some of those overpriced guzzlin' 4x4's, just to get the kids to school and get mud on the fenders on forestry roads, then you should have the cash to just buy a used realible "beater" 4x4 for fractions on the cost and still have funds for a sporty sedan, that in many respects maybe safer then a SUV.

My once new SUV has California pin stripes and gets offroad at least twice a month in the summer and everyweekend in the winter. No leather seats for me! My SUV gets used like its supposed to. The high mileage is mostly freeway miles.

Windshield has been replaced (offroading), and I'm on my 3rd set of tires. I love my truck!

MOT, I don't believe anyone here has said they own any of those SUVs you listed and none of the ones I've seen here are in the 60Ks or even close. My SUVs sucks the same gas, if not less, than most vans and I had my Jeep off road the very week I bought it.

I'd love to get a hummer, but the wife is out of town until Monday.

Currently I drive a 1-ton chevy crew cab. Enough room to keep the kids from 'touching' each other on road trips.

Looking forward to shuttling TT'ers in it on the Montanapalooza.

gojo, a friend of mine has the Tundra and he really likes it. unfortunately his 16 yr old son ran it through a fence on the way to elk hunting this fall. Just now in the repair shop.

Gonna get a nice 4 banger -cheap on gas, parts, insurance and I hardly ever needed the 4x4.And i wont be supporting terrorist states with my thirst for their oil!

Not Dad's station wagon
My Dad always had a station wagon to haul 5 kids around. I have one to haul my 2 spoiled-rotten kids and their stuff around and to sleep in at trailheads.

It's a 2-wheel-drive Jeep Grand Cherokee......

like I said, my station wagon.

15 year old Buick, no hub caps, 4 dents, cracked
windshield. Your classic 'classy' SUV. I don't even care if it gets scrathed.

hey skullcap, what's there to cry about?

Where I live, everybody's SUV eventually ends up in Mexico. Ever been to Tijuana? The # of American SUV's getting chopped up in chop shops there is mind boggling.

Transmission, Ski?? You're kidding!

'95 Imploder 4WD, 3rd windshield, 3rd transmission, LOL. Other than that, there's not a scratch on it.

How's about that WRX, Rosey! A buddy tells me they're supposed to up the horsepower from 227 to 265 next year... I'm thinking silver, Recaro seats with 5-point belts, *G*

Yowza.

'98 Mitsubishi Montero Sport ES 110,000 Miles. Nothing major has broken (lost the FM band on the radio, CD lives on!) and I get 24 MPG.

I keep looking at the Tacoma Crew Cab 4x4, but just don't want to get into another car payment or raise the insurance. Oh well, I'll drive it til it dies then toss another engine in it for another go-round.

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty it's not difficult to push 375hp in a WRX. Those sucker can go like stink.

My wife has an Impreza wagon and we both love it.

I will definately replace my GTI VR6 with a WRX when the time comes.

Yeah, I've been watching the rallys lately on the tube and the WRX comes in first or second every time. Those babies are gonna change driving in America. I'll look forward to blowing the doors off of some rice rocket with my STOCK WRX. PLus, can't beat the sheer fun of driving one on the twisty turny CA roads. I just couldn't have fun driving a big honkin' SUV.

WRX RALLY RACE
Check out the WRX website and play the rally race. I got a combined time of 3:13!

I've always been a fan of Subie's, but after checking out the WRX on the website, all I can say is how can that car be street legal?!

Rosey I'm a rally fiend. I just can't seem to find the races on the tube anymore out here.

Those Mitusbishi's they race are Lancer EVO IV's. Mitsu just released a wimped out version of the Lancer in the US this year. The Ford Focus WRC is based on the same platform as the US production model. VW also had a Golf Rallye they raced a couple a years back. Toyota left rallying last year, god knowes why. They were racing a AWD turbo corolla hatchback that screamed.

Could you just imagine if all of them finally gave us a street versions of the WRC's in the US?

Any monkey can go fast in a straight line or a banked oval. Gimme AWD, a turbo'ed 4 and a twisty road.
