Anyone planning on attempting an AT thru-hike this year? I'll be starting beginning of June half-way through Virginia, where I left off three years ago. Hope to make some friends now...

AT anyone?
Certainly there's gotta be someone. Is there a better site for AT hikers?

thruhikers.com
This looks like a new site, maybe it'll be of help to you.

Most folks here do backpack a lot but not many can get the time and cash together to thru-hike.

I wish I could!
BTW, Have you ever heard of the real "Chip" that lives on the AT?
If you use the Trail Name "Chip" on your long distance trips out there, You may make people kinda nervous.
That is one wacked out dude!

i'm just as real as he
Actually, its "Chips," as in one half of "Fish and Chips." Got the name b/c my hiking buddy on the AT was named Fish, and was a Brit. I've already hiked a 2 month stretch on the AT in '99 and just going back to finish it. Haven't had a problem with the name yet.

Have you ever heard of the famous AT "Chip"?
His name is Chip Lynnard. He is mentally handycapped and actually lives on the AT. Radagast and myself met him at Blood Mt Shelter last year. He's one wierd dude. Some hikers are more scared of him than all the bears in the Smokys. If you introduce yourself to someone and they look at you funny, be sure to explain to them that your not that chip.

Nope, never heard of him, or of anyone that actually lived on the AT. Thx for the heads up.

Centavo, remember that song from Sound of Music...Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, till you find your dream. Also, doe ray me fa sew la tea doe is a great song to sing to yourself while hiking the AT.

Oh yeah, Itsby bitsy spider is also great. And as soon as I can remember all the lyrics to You are My Sunshine, I might add that to my hiking/preventing-insanity repertoire.
