Guns in the FrontcountryView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 30 of 30 messages posted.
Interesting Revelation! “Did you hear about the killing spree at Appalachian Law School? It got alot of coverage, so you prolly did. Anyhoo, I guess you're aware that the shooter was stopped by several students. What we weren't told by the (liberal!) media is that two of the students were armed, and the gunman dropped his gun only after one of the students threatened to shoot. Only then was the shooter wrestled to the ground... "Gun Free School Zone"? Whatever... We will never know how many lives were saved because two people bucked the "system", and exercised their right to bear arms...” 12:05:49 PM 1/28/02 Link 12:09:34 PM 1/28/02 “By all means, let's get 'em packing to school by the first grade. Let's see Timmy, steno notepad, 12 pack of #2 pencils, Eberhard eraser, HKMP5 9mm assault rifle, not wait, we'd better start you out with the uzi, it has a little less kick...” 12:10:27 PM 1/28/02 Awww, Roseymonkey “That is KEWL!” 12:13:37 PM 1/28/02 Gojo, you have a valid point.. “I would love it if law-abiding, well-trained, and gun respecting citizens could carry, and your example shows why it's a problem... it wasn't 2 people who bucked the system, it was 3 and one of them had a bad day... so I'm happy to carry my oc and my Blackbelt” 12:16:12 PM 1/28/02 Who's that Senator from TX “that was in the restaurant that was rammed by a car, driver gets out and shoots up the place - killing many? Her gun (and several other patrons) was in her car cuz of laws that prohibit guns in "public". She ran for Congress after that incident...” 12:25:17 PM 1/28/02 “Most folks pack guns around here (Northern, CA) we have more concealed weapons permits than 99% of America, (myself included, although I don't carry) our crime rate is above average, and we do seem to have an awful lot of folks shooting each other, outside bars, domestic disputes, in the woods, you name it....it seems that at least a couple times a month someone shot some one else. I don't really know if more guns is the answer, or less....I do know that there seems to be less road rage (at least it seems more controlled) then most places, I suspect that it may be due to the fact that about every other car has a gun in it and everyone knows it.” 12:28:47 PM 1/28/02 “In every case you'll find that the people in unjustified shootings are not licensed for carry. It is too hard and expensive and the people, myself included, that go the legal route are not the ones that misuse firearms. Off soapbox now..” 12:48:08 PM 1/28/02 “Dang, I looked REAL QUICK and thought the thread title was GUYS in the Frontcountry. :-(” 12:53:29 PM 1/28/02 Kennesaw, GA “Has a city ordinance that REQUIRES all residents to own a gun. It's not enforced, tho.” 12:54:29 PM 1/28/02 “That's not anything to brag about, Joe.” 1:08:08 PM 1/28/02 No brag - just fact “Just the facts, ma'am...” 1:22:28 PM 1/28/02 Some gun facts: “Among children 10 and younger, only three every two weeks are killed by guns in the US. Guns are safer for children than wading pools, bathtubs and bicycles.” 1:26:28 PM 1/28/02 “Climb up on top of a cafeteria table with a tank full of thick, stinking diesel fuel strapped to your back, and watch the reactions of classmates and teachers, and be immortalized in the Guns for Kids Hall of Fame! http://www.gunsforkids.com/” 1:34:54 PM 1/28/02 “Every time I read a report such as Lott's, it makes me cringe to admit I was a journalist for so long. Though I considered myself well versed in such matters (or obligated to learn if I wasn't), I knew too many reporters and editors who couldn't tell one type of gun from another and were not interested in learning anything about the subject. The result is the whole "assault rifle" brouhaha. Consider, too, Violin, that "guns" included in that count you mention are actually predominantly rifles and shotguns (which don't need a permit and were likely improperly stored by their parents), not handguns, though you wouldn't know that from the anti-handgun lobby. John Lott, who wrote the NYPost.com article gojo linked to, is perhaps the foremost researcher (as opposed to pundit or mouthpiece) on the gun/crime relationship, and I've posted info from his book on gun threads here before.” 1:49:07 PM 1/28/02 I don't own a gun “But I want to retain the option. Violin - I don't do stats related to controversial issues - too "subjective". I learned in college that I could do a research paper arguing that the earth is flat, and back it up with documentation. Kids spend MUCH more time around bathtubs, pools, and bicycles than they do guns - generally speaking. I must admit, tho, that as a kid, I spent more time with my .22 and 410 than I did with a washcloth! LOL!” 2:05:21 PM 1/28/02 “Is this the same John Lott who argued that "the worst thing people can expect from dioxin is a bad rash"? The one who has also argued that the hiring of more women and minorities in law enforcement has actually increased crime rates? Sounds like a crackpot, not a researcher. :)” 2:05:41 PM 1/28/02 ad hominem? “mapper, read his article on the news coverage, consider his facts and then weigh his conclusion. Can't say if it's the same guy who wrote on those subjects (he's John R. Lott Jr.) and without reading what was written about those two subjects by whoever, I'd hesitate to say any controversial position was goofy just because it doesn't hold with the general perception. But I have his book on guns and crime and it does not have the scent of crackpot work -- lots of data, much more research than a crackpot would be willing to do.” 2:24:09 PM 1/28/02 “If you want to get right down to the core elements of this argument you have to consider several things.. 1) If guns were completely illegal..people would still have guns, just like drugs...So, why not let people have the freedom to defend themselves. Before the advent of firearms people were killing each other with knives, swords, poison, rocks, bare hands, capapults, boiling oil, ropes...ect.. You think people would figure out that it's in mans nature to fight and kill(It's not right)..It's only fair that each person be given a chance to protect themselves..” 3:24:29 PM 1/28/02 “Let me warn you this is long! I did not post this early because I have seen to many gun bashing stories on this site so I did not wont to dive into another one. But since it is here I can t help but join in. This happened in my hometown. I lived there up until I left for the army and again until I moved to attend college. This is a small coal-mining town in the middle of nowhere but it is still home. Because it is a very small town and you can't belch in your house with out every one in town finding out about it, it was a surprise that the news stories where telling a different story than all the other people. But the fact that people have guns in there cars did not surprise to me or anyone else in the town. Guns are a way of life up there. I received my first gun on the day I was born. I know that sounds strange but let me gets the facts straight I nor anyone else for that matter got to shoot it until I was 8 on my 8th birthday dad took me and my older brother out and I got to shoot it for the first time. Up until that point I had only got to shoot BB guns with supervision. Like I said every one has guns. What might strike many is the fact the gun related crimes are very low. In fact crime in general is very low. The fact the shooter was and outsider speaks volumes you don’t start a gun fight in Buchanan county if you don’t wont to get shot because if the person you are shooting dose not get you some one else will. As my dad likes to “ If you are going to ride around up front on a white horse you got to expect some one to take a shot at you”. This incident is a shame because it will hurt the school. This school is good for the economy. Hopefully all the attention will get people looking at their web sight and they will find out that this a good place to get your degree. Grunt” 3:26:51 PM 1/28/02 “Ps Ted Kennedy’s car has killed more people than any of my guns. And Amen wsdavies” 3:29:50 PM 1/28/02 “Wow. Guns again. Whoopeee sh!t.” 3:49:43 PM 1/28/02 “Those media types are so PC. They don't ever want to give credit to the Pro-Gun side. They never mentioned that those two students had guns pointed at the killer. Thanks for letting us know Gojo.” 10:49:19 PM 1/28/02 “It's really sad that there are a lot of stories of lives saved and crimes prevented because of guns that are being ignored by the media. If you guys don't already listen to Neal Boortz, go to his website (www.boortz.com), and click on NealsNuze. He usually digs up stories around the nation of people protecting themselves with guns. These stories prove the fact that guns save far more lives than they take. If you are not armed at home and someone breaks into your home, you are at that person's mercy. If people don't want to have guns in their home, that's fine, but I feel safer with mine.” 5:39:14 AM 1/29/02 Did you hear the one about... “the guy that was driving through an ATL mall parking lot when he witnessed an assault/attempted rape, stopped his pickup, approached the perp, warned him, then resulted to blowing his sh!t away? ...of course not.” 7:51:10 AM 1/29/02 “Don't tell me...the evil media conspiracy kept the news from me? Or maybe it's because we don't get a whole lot of Atlanta local news here? :)” 8:12:35 AM 1/29/02 “I'm sorry for making this stuff up. Neal Boortz is really good at counterfeiting those links to these newspaper sights from around the country. Damn! Thanks for clearing that up guys!” 1:08:11 PM 1/29/02 “Blam!” 1:19:52 PM 1/29/02 “Give me a break. Lott whines that the evil, biased "liberal media" is intentionally leaving out the fact the shooter stopped by armed students. Yet, he conveniently leaves out the fact that at leat one of the subduers was an off-duty sheriff's deputy. Off-duty cops are hardly representative of the armed populace. Bias swings both ways.” 11:46:29 AM 1/30/02 “Foamfinger, was the off-duty sheriff's deputy one of the people with the gun? Or did he jumped on the killer after the killer dropped his gun?” 2:51:47 AM 2/01/02
