“When I was in Marquette recently, I swung by St. Vinny's, didn't find anything that fit me, but there were two down vests hanging there for someone who could take a small or medium -- each $3. Don't have to worry about getting gear "dirty" on the trail at that price.

My best thrift score ever was a Hong Kong hand-tailored tweed English country walking jacket, with the personalized label inside, real leather buttons and all -- in my exact size at the time -- for $4. I still have it and long for the days when it fit. Stylin' in my slender(poor) grad school days.”

“i found a sierra designs waterproof pullover shell too at our goodwill store...it even had the stuff sack in the zip pocket....5 bucks....! it's red....wow...i never owned any red gear....i like it.
last year i got a pair of cross country skis there for 10 bucks...almost new....i ended up selling them at a yardsale tho....i am sorry i did that now.

“Thifts stores are great fun if you have an adventurist attitude. About once a year our whole family goes to one just to see what we can find. My girls love to shop for vintage clothes.

Once I about completely equipped myself for a car camping kitchen real cheap: plates, cups, silverware, pans, etc.

Bought two down vests (our sizes) for under $5 each.

My favorite find was an army jacket with insignia for--GET THIS--82nd Airborne, Paratrooper Wings, Sergeant...just like my uncle on the memorial page...That blew everyone away!!

My father goes to thrift stores to collect ties. He has over 400 now and has a lot of fun giving them away and wearing them.”

Watch out for Cabela's "Bargain Cave." Their returned stuff goes there. It's supposed to have "deals" and does -- once in a blue moon! A lot of stuff looks like crap and is maybe cut only $10. I can't believe they sell a lot of the stuff! But... I still always look there, just perchance. Once I got 2 pairs of nice trail pants for maybe $15 each.”

last week at the thrift store i got a thin pullover-it has a semi shiny finish...the label says m.t.s-100%microfiber.So I dont know what its use is but for 2 bux what the hell.
Today,I got a K2 hydration pack(fluid link model)for 3 bux but no bladder.I also got an EMS fleece pullover with zip up collar-the label says 100% micro denier poly fleece.Paid 5 bux.”

“this weekend i scored a great 2 liter aluminum pot w/snap on lid so i can store my stove etc in it.Paid a buck!
I also scored a super lighttripod with legs that you are threaded/twist locking.Pretty cool and 5 bux!
One store currently has a nice pair of supplex nylon pants made by Performance for 6 bux.But i already bought too many pants.”

“I went to one of the thrift stores by where I work to see what they had. Right away I found a TNF down vest for $8 and right behind it was a LL Bean Parka 80% down, 20% feathers for $12. Of course neither one was my size....grrrr”

“not the score of the century but today at goodwill i found a 9 cup aluminum backpackers coffee pot with folding handle for 75 cents it weighs 7 ozs and an 8 inch aluminum frypan with no stick coating 3 ozs after i cut the handle off .also found some computer games on cd for 3 bucks each. Erik”

“i bot the eddie bauer 3liter reservoir bladder that includes mouth valve on sale at Tar-Jayyyyy(target)for 8 bux-reg price 12bux.
It works great and is quality stuff.Its as tuff as chit and worked real nice for my hikes and biking in utah.I placed it in my knapsack/daypack-fits nicely.
You can boil it,freeze it,nuke it.Its way better than my platypus hands down.”
