Best Day BackpackingView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 12 of 12 messages posted.
What was your best day. “Mine was out on the shores of Benson Lake smack dab in the middle of Yosemite's Backcountry, 25 miles from the nearest trailhead. The shore has a sandy beach and waters produced 12 inch trout for lunch. This gigantic lake was one of the most memorable spots I've been to Backpacking. How to get there A good Trip Report of Trail ” 12:19:15 AM 1/30/02 “I can say that 99.9% of the backpacking trips that I have been on have all been good.” 5:52:14 PM 1/30/02 “The ones I've been on have been neat overnighters but I long for something longer. I really really wanna do the PCT. Someday. Hey look I'm rambling on again.” 5:56:26 PM 1/30/02 “Poppinfresh are you going on the Mont trip in July? You bettter becuase it's going to be a BLAST!!!!!!” 5:59:07 PM 1/30/02 “I cant afford it.” 6:10:08 PM 1/30/02 “My best was on a multi-night, solo trip in the Pecos Wilderness. Life was tough, I took off for the mountains to be alone. Five days, I saw nary a soul. The best day was one mostly above timberline. The sky was rainy and dreary, but I was dry and warm. The clouds would periodically lift, revealing the peaks above, still snow covered on the north side in late summer. I hallucinated hearing bear outside my tent all that night. I've been abandoned by my colleagues at work. I'm going home.” 6:17:34 PM 1/30/02 “Toooooo many to choose from. The ones where the weather, people, trail, food, animals, camp, terrain, ect. was all good usually just kinda get lost in the mix with all the other good trips. The most memorable ones are the ones where sh!t goes all wrong. They make for the best stories later! Dig it; The trail was flat. The skis were nice and sunny. Camp was in the perfect spot, and we ate good. -BORING- As soon as I got to the TH it started pouring buckets and continued for 3 straight days. My tent leaked and my down bag took on water. Raccoons, mice, & a bear ate most of my food. On the 4th day the temp dropped to 15 degrees and I froze in my wet down bag. About a mile from the end of the trip I picked up and old Beer can from the trail to carry out to throw away but I was arrested when a National Park Ranger saw me with it. -This is the one that keeps peoples attention-” 6:20:43 PM 1/30/02 “Can't what!!!!You suck!!!You are going to go it does not cost more $200 to get out there. We are driveing there!!!!!Get with it!!!!YOU ARE GOING!!!!!!” 6:48:35 PM 1/30/02 “"I can say that 99.9% of the backpacking trips that I have been on have all been good." its crazy mike 05:52:14 PM 01/30/02 >>>> I wanna hear about the 0.1% !! ================================================ The most memorable ones are the ones where sh!t goes all wrong. They make for the best stories later! walkindude 06:20:43 PM 01/30/02 >>> Thank you!! YES!.. You are sooo right!” 9:36:09 PM 1/30/02 hmmmm.... “well, lessee...all of my backpacking trips have kinda sucked for one reason or another... I guess the best was the one to the Sipsey with my brother last May. Except for the second day, it was great, even though it rained the second night. I had thought to bring along a tarp to pitch over the tent, and we stayed dry. Worst trip was my first, I was packing like 55lbs... Wore me out. I got more wore out on my AT trip, where I actually had to leave the trail early, but it was good to know I could push myself so hard and still survive...lol....” 9:46:37 PM 1/30/02 10:18:18 PM 1/30/02 Most of em! “Backpacking is like life. 99.9% of it is GOOOoodd 0.01% of it is the doo doo you scrape off your boots” 10:31:39 PM 1/30/02
