ImaHiker made the comment to me that no one talks about hiking on this website, and so he was going to respond to the fact that "some of the people in here said it would be great to have a chatroom for hikers."

I want to say for the record that I think ImaHiker is an incredibly talented and energentic guy, who is putting together what could be a premier website at some point.

I like his site. He said he might try to get personal chat rooms for us. I can see it now, "Nigal's Bizzar-O Room". Must submit your GOP card at the door to gain entry. LOL!

Back in the college days, I knew folks in the BSU (baptist student union) who talked only about Jesus, listened only to Jesus music, and read only Jesus books -- or at least tried. They were 'jcfreaks4life'.

NOTE: Not meant in anyway to be a slam to my friend in Michigan, just making a point here.

The same in that philosophy I think is that it makes/develops character that is one dimensional, and void of ancilliary interests that provide common discussion points among there friends.

The comment is that we never talk about hiking on here, and yet most of the threads ARE about hiking. The only time this board does not talk about hiking is when we are being bombarded by trolls or when some of us are bored/stressed and need some relief!

Anyways.. This is not a 'in praise of the' TT website, and it is not a 'screw you' flaming. It is just an observation to what I THINK can only be attributed to youth and innocence. Oh to be 19 again. :)

True Towny. Hiking is something I "DO", not what I am. I personally want nothing to do with anyone who's life is hiking.

TownDawg,

You took me way out of context. You warned me that just because I was starting a hiking chatroom that people would start talking about other things and that is the reason why you don't like them. I said that is ok because TT is not always about hiking either. I personally love that about TT. Just because we are hikers doesn't mean that is our only interest in life. You know what I mean. I love everything about TT because I have never seen such a devoted following for a site like this. I especially love you TownDawg with them sweet cheeks of yours.

They'll only come if they can find it. If it's interesting then they will stay.

Look/feel? Content? Neighborhood? Status/Knowledge of 'what is going on?'

TD, content is the only thing that matters in the end. I have seen a ton of sites that are butt-ugly and difficult to use but have great content and the users keep coming back. Why? Because they had content that other sites lacked either in relevancy or quantity.

Our 19 year old receptionist needs to be taught how to dress appropriatly for work. Her most famous (or perhaps infamous) outfit is a hooded pink fuzzy sweater, and low riding pants, from which you can see her thong when she bends over. I've never been one to "let it all hang out" but at 19, you ought to be smart enough not to do that in a professional setting.

Just my contribution to thread degeneration.

If you can answer the phone, address and stamp the mail, and play on the internet all day (obviously you all can do that) then I think you're hired!

But think about it, we're a professional engineering firm, and she's the first thing you see as you walk in the door.

OK, nevermind. I know I'm not going to get any support here! :)

Our talent for thread degeneration is fairly proficient:

1)Skullcap inspires TownDawg to praise ImaHiker, and then hint at things 'not so positive' that he chose not to say.

2) We get a few amens regarding the talent in some of the things ImaHiker has accomplished with his site, and then TownDawg comes back to spout off some philosophy or something.. (who really knows to be sure what the heck he was saying)

3)In a usual turn of events, someone understands the 'true meaning' of the post and someone else gets offended by it.

4) Nigal and ImaHiker do some 'male bonding'.

5) HPM chimes in with a little profundity for renewed interest in the thread.

6) After a slow start, we consider what we like about websites, and color quickly comes into view. (I hate black and yellow, and some of us hate green and WHITE.)

7) Smiley Girl paints an image of whimsical debauchery for all of us.

8) We get several latecomers who all of a sudden wonder WHAT in the world are we talking about to get the numbers up so high so quick.

9) and here we are.. :)

One of the things that occurred to me on the way home today was that a really good webmaster is 'nearly' invisible; meaning that it is not necessary to be in EVERY thread, every story, every discussion. The website thrives on its own merits, and does not need the continually 'pumping' of content by its owner.

Any thoughts?
