“I just ordered a Whisperlight International.... I can't wait to get it... I have wanted one for year and now I can boil some serious water! YEEEEEEHAAAAAAW I should have it next week... hope I don't blow myself up...” 10:15:59 AM 1/30/02 “Make sure you read the directions. It is a great stove.” 12:12:28 PM 1/30/02 “and guess what ELSE! i got some new hiking boots, and Tarp Monkey got me an awesome waterproof jacket and some gators (sp?) and i'm getting some thermals...woooo hoooo!!! i can't wait to use them! i hope i don't blow up from excitement ;-)” 12:29:07 PM 1/30/02 “YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAW!” 2:57:30 PM 1/30/02 Oh, The Smell Of New Gear “When filling the priming cup **DO NOT FILL IT UP**! Shut off the fuel when you see it entering the cup. Believe me, that's all you need to prime the carburator pipe. Anymore and you'll have much more black soot forming on the stove parts, and flames that are way too big and last too long. Of course, if you like flames...” 4:38:32 PM 1/30/02 Cool Tarpy and Lyra !!! “Buudur's right ...it takes very, very little gas to prime a stove. If you fill the priming cup all the way full ...expect 18" flames for a while ...LOL! I ordered a Snow Peak last night! Is four stoves to many????? MSR model G MSR Whisperlite Pepsi Can and now a Snowpeak A stove for every occasion!” 5:45:11 PM 1/30/02 ya gotta love new gear! “I just got my first white gas stove yesterday and I didn't blow myself up, which means it must be safe for all ages! I would have gotten the whisperlight myself cuz it's supposed to be a great stove but I want to simmer, so I got the Optimus Nova. This simpleton figured out how to use it in no time. However, I WON'T try it in the kitchen again. Dang, those flames shoot high when you over prime a tad! Happy cookin!” 6:00:05 PM 1/30/02 Sorry Buddur! “uu instead of dd” 6:08:08 PM 1/30/02 “Thanks for the input... I will be in abou 2 feet of snow so a huge flame thrower might be good to melt some of that White Mountain Snow... yummers!” 8:27:29 AM 1/31/02 “Ha ha! There's a shelter on the AT in GSMNP that still bears the scars of my over-priming escapade. I'm glad the damage to my eybrows wasn't nearly so permanent!” 8:31:04 AM 1/31/02 “"Score", again for the WHISPERLITE INT'L The game continues!” 11:45:37 AM 1/31/02 “Actually, mine is a Dragonfly. Not much difference, really UNLESS YOU LIKE HAVEING TO SHOUT TO THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU WHILE YOU'RE COOKING.” 11:51:46 AM 1/31/02 “WHAT DID YOU SAY SKULLY!” 11:52:44 AM 1/31/02 “EXACTLY!” 11:54:02 AM 1/31/02 “they should call it the Shoutlite...ha? ha?” 11:54:36 AM 1/31/02 “SAY WHAT? TRY MY GOOD EAR! I own both. the Whisperlite really is quieter but it doesn't seem like it until you use both of them.” 11:56:38 AM 1/31/02 “Phew! It would have to be! One of the guys on our troop committee is ex Airforce and he can actually pinpoint the jet engine that it (th Dragonfly) most closely matches. He says it's nearly an exact match when a certain jet is at a certain (fairly low) altitude and flying overhead. I believe him! Everybody else just calls it the Boeing.” 11:59:58 AM 1/31/02 “Now that is funny! Madman is Ex-Marine Avionics and he said the same thing about mine. I love the stove, it's just loud. My pepsi can is much quieter. :)” 12:03:16 PM 1/31/02 “Enjoy the stove Tarpy. Mine is an original model. '83 '84 I forget. I only had to replace the pump last year cause I wore it out.” 12:05:48 PM 1/31/02 Simmer of Love “Simmering with the WI is possible, but can be tricky. Here is my trick. I usually heat up coffee or something at full heat, before I simmer. This gets the stove good and hot and bleeds some of the pressure from the fuel bottle. The stove doesn't require much pressure to operate effectively. To simmer I turn down the fuel valve to so that it is only opened one half a turn. To maintain the flame I will give one pump to the fuel bottle as needed. I do not monkey around with the valve to control the flame. Just adjust fuel pressure. With this technique I can bake 12 minute biscuits in my backpack oven on a WI.” 12:21:10 PM 1/31/02 “It's the WhisperLOUD. Mine's the Dragonfly.” 12:25:35 PM 1/31/02 “Around here, we call the Dragonfly a 'what' stove; when it's on everybody keeps shouting, 'What?'.” 3:13:12 PM 1/31/02 “What's with all the white gas stoves? Get on the lightweight bandwgon and get an MSR Pocket Rocket. They simmer, have a fast boil time, and the stove AND one full canister weighs less than the WL WITHOUT the fuel bottle. Good for three seasons, and up to around 6500 feet. Not my only stove, but definitely my favorite. No moving parts, no priming, simple, cheap, great.” 3:29:09 PM 1/31/02 Good Question “Well, it's season #4 in New Hampshire, so the pcket rocket wouldn't work would it?... hey... there's your answer!” 3:31:42 PM 1/31/02 “ 3:37:06 PM 1/31/02 “Oh man, that just aggravated the hiking bug!” 3:39:56 PM 1/31/02 “Cool shot TR!! You're sure right about season #4. I love my superfly canister to death but it struggled in the Dacks a few weeks ago.” 6:23:24 PM 1/31/02 “No 4 stoves aren't too many. There is a guy on another hiking board who has 13! I think that there are a few collectors out there.” 8:56:16 PM 1/31/02 “13??? Now THAT is a gear slut! ;o)” 9:51:12 PM 1/31/02 “That picture was taken before the storm hit yesterday! It's from a weather cam in the MT. Washington Valley! I can't wait to be there in a few weeks! ARGHHH!” 9:37:16 AM 2/01/02
