Best use for GPS yet found! 4:27:46 PM 1/30/02 “LOL... cute.” 4:29:55 PM 1/30/02 “I want one for my birthday.” 4:31:13 PM 1/30/02 “GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY! How can I sign up for beta test??” 4:47:07 PM 1/30/02 Yes! “Progress good.” 4:51:24 PM 1/30/02 Global Positioning Spirits “Like many of you (prolly), what drunk all by himself couldn't find a bar within a few blocks?” 4:58:14 PM 1/30/02 Every One Mile I Hike, Buddur Runs Three “I took a couple doods hiking this afternoon, and while talking about GPSs one of them mentioned I should put one on Buddur and track how far he goes in an outing, and using another GPS to track my distance compare the two. What a cool idea. After enough hikes, you could take an average as to how much farther per mile the dog goes compared to it's human counterpart.” 3:47:13 PM 3/02/02 “He has four legs, you have two. So you have to convert the distance into dog-miles by multiplying times 7.” 3:53:33 PM 3/02/02 “Have you seen the new GPS cell phone? I actually am impressed with it. The most interesting feature is that you can transmit your location to a caller so say you are stuck on the side of the road in the snow, you can transmit your exact position with a touch of a button. Also it jsut kind of makes sense. It would be nice to have a built in map to any city on your phone.” 7:17:32 PM 3/02/02 “COMPUTER SOFTWARE UPGRADE SETS STAGE FOR SPACE STATION EXPANSION The International Space Station is ready for assembly of its next major components -- a football field-sized structural backbone supporting power, cooling and mobile robotics systems -- now that a new generation of computer software is "booted up" and on the job. The product of years of planning, months of testing and the transfer of about 2,500 files to and within the station, the new software is in use aboard the orbiting laboratory today following a carefully coordinated 12-hour process that was finished last Friday. The software prepares the space station for its new configuration with its main truss, which will support the station's solar arrays, radiators, mobile base system for the robotic arm and other equipment. The first element of the truss, the S0 (or S-zero), is to be launched aboard Atlantis on STS-110 in April. The successful software upgrade had to be completed before Atlantis could be launched. One of the major new capabilities the new software provides allows activation of equipment on the S0 truss that will use Global Positioning System (GPS) data in the station's attitude control system. The new GPS capability will provide the primary guidance, navigation and control system of the station, transitioning Russian attitude-determination systems to a backup role. You hang out in groovy places fer sure.” 6:44:23 AM 3/03/02 “I guess it doesn't matter if you're down here on the planet or in orbit, as long as you can pull in some satellites and triangulate, *G*” 9:19:02 AM 3/03/02 “Buddur, we had a similar discussion around the campfire about the distance Scooby had run that day. Estimates ranged between 20 and 50 miles. I think the trail itself was 11 miles. Somebody can correct me on that if my memory is wrong. Four legs really are better than 2!” 9:31:19 AM 3/03/02
